It was a beautiful morning. All through the previous night it had rained relentlessly. However at the approach of dawn, the sun emerged slowly from the cloudless sky.

It was a warm, soft morning sun unlike the hot, scorching midday sun that  typifies a not so tropical city like San Francisco.

Annabel King who life was rough at,stepped down for an old looking lady who almost shoved her to the floor to get the last seat on the bus.

But Annabel cared less, she was used to the wickedness of life and had gladly accepted everything life threw at her with no complaints.

She'd been standing here for hours yet she couldn't find a bus.

Sadly, she turned and began to walk the short distance to her every day place-the orphanage.

It was a place where she could derive real happiness and the only place she'd run to when her mother and step dad filled the house with shouts and quarrels.

Her mother Mrs Wilson is a surly, frivolous type and fussy type of woman. Her real dad,Mr King was the type of man who could stand her mother.

Although her mother is not that blatant but this is because her dad provided everything possible that she ever wanted.Annabel loved her dad.He was the closest person she ever had.

"Aish..!" Annabel was jolted out of her thoughts when a can splashed mud water on her long shapeless white dress.

"I'll recommend glasses." The blatant bearded driver shouted through the window even though she was wearing glasses.

Annabel just looked away and continued her journey.

How she missed her father is not explainable. They used to be inseparable,it was hard to believe she'd gone three whole years without him.

Thanks to her fussy mother who abandoned him after spending his last credit.

Now her mother is married to a rich tycoon-Mr Gabriel Wilson, who certainly knows that her mother married him for money.

"Your cupidity is high,Elizabeth.Change!" Her stepdad had said after pushing her mother to the floor early that morning.

"Aunt Annabel!!" Little Betty called out to her once she noticed that she had almost past the orphanage and was very deep in thought.

The kids all ran to her to give her a hug but she stopped them.

"oh..not this time around.Am...dirty." She gave a sorry look with her blue baby eyes

"What made you so dirty?" A guy about twenty five, dressed in suit walked close to her.

Annabel smiled-a smile that made Nathan Davis weak in his knees.

"Oh this..well just caused by a car."

"Why don't you go clean up?" He offered with a gentle voice.

"Yes..I will." She walked past him and was soon out of sight.

"that girl..such a meek little lamb." He smiled at her leaving figure

They'd been friends for a year now and Nathan has been wishing for Annabel to be his girlfriend.

Not that she was that pretty she just has qualities that every man wished in a woman and soon enough, Nathan Davis didnt know how or when he fell in love with the ever meek Annabel King.

Unfortunately, the latter only sees him as a friend. Not even a friend to share secrets with.Nathan has tried repeatedly to be her shoulder-you-can-cry-on but Annabel just wasn't the type that blabbers.

Before he could even get her name..God..he knew how many months it took and ever since that is the only thing he knows about her.Her name.

Of course he could go find out everything he needs to know about her Besides, this is his dad's orphanage but he didnt want to step overboard and lose her friendship.

He trusted in the fact that just as the appointed time came to know her name, the rest will also come at their own will.

"Nathan..you're still standing there?" Her tiny voice blurted out and Nathan quickly recollected himself,he placed his hands in his pocket.

"Come..let's go in.The kids are excited."  He said

Annabel was always ready to satisfy these kids especially Little Betty who is the eldest of them all am who also suffers from a heart disease and desperately needs a heart transplant.

There is nothing Ann able cannot do for the little girl as she has little time left on earth.

After playing with the kids and helping them in their home works she was ready to leave.

Annabel didnt want to go back to her hellhole. There was still a lot of time and she preferred going in when her mother and step dad were both drunk and asleep.

So for the first time she actually related to Nathan, who felt a wave of hope wash over him.

"I'll ride you back" he offered as he moved to unlock the door

"Ahh..I don't want to go back yet."

A smile built up on his lips.

"So..where do you want to go?" He asked

"Anywhere..you could show me around" she smiled at him and he stood rooted to the spot.

Did this girl have any idea what she's doing to him?

With so much excitement he hopped in the car and drove to one of his father's sightseeing company.

Annabel has never seen anything like this before. She stood and stared at the gigantic building with mouth agape.

It was...breathtaking.

She continued smiling and Nathan was amused.

Annabel couldnt wait to get inside. If the exterior is this beautiful..then the interior would be magnificent.

So she ran with so much speed, leaving a dazed Nathan behind.

She tripped by the automatic door because she didnt know how it worked but was lucky enough to get saved by a stranger..who turned out to be Scott Davis..Nathan's brother, unknown to her.
