  Chapter 1

  Becca-

  ‘I-I don't understand.’

I looked at my computer screen to see his big blue eyes staring at me.

Brett: ‘I love you Becca Bear. I really wanted to be able to show you before I had to leave, just how much I love you, but I have never had that problem before. So I have to think, that maybe, since you let yourself go after that foot surgery, maybe that's why...’

‘Ya-you mean, the weight I put on? You think that, the weight, is why you couldn't get it up after dating for years?’

Brett: ‘Well baby, I know it isn't that I don't love you. It isn't that I don't want to make love to you. So I know that all the emotional aspects are good, but maybe it's physical.’

  I was shocked.

‘What if the physical issue is on your end? What if it had nothing to do with me?’

Brett: ‘That is the only time it has ever happened.’

  I tilted my head.

‘You said you only had sex a couple of times when we met. So how would you know? I mean, working a few times isn't really enough evidence.’

His eyes moved to one corner.

Brett: ‘Baby, I have told you, I am your typical guy. I enjoy free internet sites and time alone like any guy would.’

  ‘That's different though. That doesn't....’

Brett: ‘Hey babe, I'm sorry to cut you off, but the campus bonfire is tonight. I told you about it, remember?’

  ‘It's only five....’

Brett: ‘Love you baby, talk to you later!’

  ‘Love you too.’

  I just sighed.

Since the second half of my freshman year we had been together.

We had been on the school swimming team together.

Eventually he asked to give me a ride to the pasta dinners we had the night before every meet to boost our energy from carbs.

My house was on his way to school from his house so he started picking me up, and taking me home after practice.

After being in that stage for months where you're together, and everyone knows it, but you haven't made it official, he finally asked me to be his girlfriend.

We never said we'd wait until marriage, but wanted it to be special.

He went to community college last year to better his transcript, which got him a great scholarship.

The only downfall was it being fifteen hundred miles away, and he was doing a mini semester before fall so our time together this summer was cut in half.

I stared into the mirror and noticed you couldn't really see the outline of my abs like you used to.

My arms were a little squishy.

I decided to start jogging, so I wouldn't have to drive to the Rec Center all the time.

The greenway was only a few blocks away, a few roads over, and a short trip through the woods.

I saw that I could get a few miles in before dark so I threw on a tank top over my sports bra and got my running shoes.

I slowed down on the dead end road just before the woods since I didn’t run through those.

The isolated house at the end always caught my eye.

A girl that graduated a while back from my school lived there, Dani.

I guessed she had a thing for neon bar signs, because there were a bunch of them on the outside of the garage.

Everyone started calling the place, the house with the neon lights.

She always had this reputation, well, not always, but apparently she used to be a really innocent good girl type.

Once she and her boyfriend split up the summer before her senior year, she became ‘that girl’ at parties.

That girl who made out with the guys and the girls.

That girl who stopped giving a fuck about others opinions.

She wasn't the typical trashy, or slutty type.

She maintained good grades, was only a bitch when someone pushed, but it was like, she went after what she wanted and just didn't care what anyone else thought.

I noticed movement in a window about twenty five feet from me as I passed, then jumped when something was thrown against the window.

It was her, and she didn't seem to have any clothes on.

She noticed me as a tall figure appeared behind her.

She bit her lip and winked at me just before she was turned around.

I looked down at the street and walked away quickly.
