In front of Magic Karaoke.

Daren Lloyd had just parked the car when he saw his sister—in—law, Ashley Monroe.

The lady was young and beautiful. With light makeup, she looked even more charming and lovely today.

"Ashley, come on. Get in the car. Mom is waiting for you to come home for dinner."

Daren got off to open the door of the car. He seemed to have a hard time walking because of his wobbly leg.

"Oh, isn't that Ashley's crippled brother—in—law? Let me just say, the rumors do him no justice."

"His left is 160cm, his right 170cm, and his average height 165..." The speaker snickered.

"Stop laughing at him. It should be awful to be a cripple..."

The few young ladies hanging out with Ashley chirped happily.

Ashley was pale with anger. Nothing good was going to happen every time she met her loser brother—in—law!

She was again ridiculed by her friends, wasn't she?

"Hurry back into the car, will you? Didn't I tell you to wait for me across the street?"

Ashley glared at Daren before getting into the car and settling in the back seat.

"I drove over in case it would be unsafe for you to cross the road..."

"Shut up! You've embarrassed me enough."

Daren was silent.

Without daring to utter another word, he drove away with Ashley.

Daren had been married to the Monroe family for more than three years, yet he was even inferior to a dog. He felt sorry at the thought of it.

"Mom, I'm back. Eh, who is she?"

As soon as she entered the house, Ashley spotted a girl about her age.

"Who else she can be? The cripple's sister!"

Frida Novak rolled her eyes at Daren with annoyance.

She despised her son—in—law, a cripple from a humble family.

"Oh, I'm going back to my room."

Ashley cast a disgusted glance at Daren's sister, who dressed like a country bumpkin, and headed back to her room.

"Maryjane, what brings you here?"

Daren looked at Maryjane affectionately.

"I haven't saved enough money for this semester's tuition...."

Maryjane rubbed the hem of her clothes, her face red as she whispered.

"How much are you short of?"

"I still need more than a thousand."

"You could just make a phone call. You don't have to come here..."

Daren took a quick peep at Frida as he spoke, worrying that the dragon would get mad at his sister.

As expected, Frida was wearing an ugly look.

"You beggar is soliciting in my house already. How shameless!"

With her hands on her waist, Frida scowled at Maryjane.

"Madam, I will return the money to my brother. Please don't be angry."

"Return the money? How? By prostituting yourself?"

Frida sneered with contempt.

"Mom, don't be so harsh. You don't need to pay for it. I have money."

Daren suppressed his anger. He could take any insult directed at him. But he was unable to stand Frida insulting Maryjane.

"You have money? Huh, how hilarious. You yourself are a leech eating our food and using our things. Where did you get the money?"

"I..."

"You what? Apart from laundry and cooking, have you earned us a penny?"

"My goddamn husband was so stupid to have you be our son—in—law. But you could at least man up, you useless cripple!"

"Supporting trash like you is trying enough. Do we still need to support your whole trash family?"

"My poor daughter. How on earth did such a lovely girl end up marrying you piece of crap!"

Scolded by his mother—in—law, Daren felt his face burning and was unable to utter a word.

Not long after he married into the Monroe family, his left leg went wrong and he limped. Then he became the laughingstock of everyone.

"Daren, I'll figure out how to fix my tuition. I'm leaving."

With her eyes red, Maryjane opened the door and rushed out.

"Maryjane!"

Daren ran after his sister, his mind blank with anxiety.

But because of his troubled leg, he fell and got a big lump on his forehead the moment he went out.

"What a good—for—nothing! Huh, no wonder your sister is cheap enough to come here asking for money. You two are just wastes of space."

Standing at the door with her arms crossed, Frida ridiculed him.

"Who are you talking about?"

Daren couldn't help but get to his feet and roar.

Frida was startled. For more than three years, Daren had always been tame. So it was quite scary when he snapped.

But Frida soon calmed herself down. "How dare you sassing me! If you don't want to stay here, get lost and make room for others!"

Daren bit his lip so hard that it split. Fine. He would just leave. What was the point of living like a dog?

With concerns for his sister, he rushed downstairs to the street.

But Maryjane was no longer there.

Overwhelmed by Grievances and bitterness, Daren sat blankly in a deserted corner.

His fingernails were digging into the dirt and bleeding. But he didn't feel any pain at all.

Where could he go now that he had been kicked out by his mother—in—law?

Without a college degree or other skills, as a cripple, he probably couldn't even take care of himself.

Daren was reluctant to leave at the thought of his beautiful wife, Areli Monroe.

Even though Areli looked down upon him and hadn't allowed him to lay a finger on her over the past three years.

His grievance aside, Daren needed to settle his sister's tuition.

But a couple of hundreds he had worked so hard to save up were not enough.

With a long sigh, Daren took out his phone and dialed a number he had kept in mind for ten years.

After getting through, he only voiced his name and location before hanging up.

Two hours later...

A commercial helicopter circled and landed. An old man in luxurious clothes rushed into the alley with two attendants.

"Young Master! It's you! Young Master!"

The old man stood respectfully in front of Daren, tears streaming down his cheeks out of excitement.

The two attendants held their breath with shock.

Who would have expected that the plain man in front of them was the young master of the richest and most powerful family in the country who had disappeared for ten years!

"Rowan."

"Sir, your half—brother died of a sudden illness. And your stepmother is no longer influential in the Lloyd family, let alone threatening your life. Your father has ordered us to retrieve you. You are the sole successor of the Lloyd family..."

Before Housekeeper Rowan Wesley could finish speaking, Daren waved his hand, signaling him to stop.

Daren had no choice but to run out of Capital City when he was a child because his stepmother had planned to assassinate him. It had been ten years!

If Maryjane's father hadn't adopted him, Daren would have died of cold and hunger.

But what had his biological father been doing at that time?

He must have been indulging Daren's little brother with his stepmother in his arms.

Daren must repay his adoptive father's kindness.

And Maryjane, who Daren had been living with for several years, had long been regarded as his sister.

As for his biological father and the mighty Lloyd family in Capital City, Daren was not ready to forgive them deep down.

"Could you lend me two thousand? I'm in urgent need of it."

Daren thought for a while before asking the housekeeper evenly.

Then he heard a loud bump!

Nervous, Rowan dropped his knees to the ground in front of Daren.

"Young Master, are you making fun of me? You are the only successor of the Lloyd family. You could have 200 billion if you like!"

"There are 50 million in this card. Your father has asked me to bring it to you specifically as your pocket money during your way back to the capital..."

With that, he handed over a black card.

Daren did not hesitate to take the card and put it away.

"Go back and tell my father not to bother me. I have my family and my wife here. I have my own life."

After saying that, Daren turned around and limped away.

The housekeeper shivered out of apprehension. His noble young master was... lame?

"How should we explain to Master that Young Master refused to go back?" One of the attendants was worried.

Watching Daren leave, Rowan let out a deep sigh. "It's good enough to know where Young Master is..."

...

Daren collected himself and went to the city hospital alone.

It was not that his leg was incurable. He just hadn't had the money to treat it.

Venous thrombosis could be cured by a minor operation. It was not a problem now that he had enough money.

After coming out of the hospital, Daren felt much better.

Without looking closely, he didn't seem to be a cripple. In a few days, he would look like a perfectly healthy guy.

Daren gave a smile for the first time in a long while. But he was still concerned when it came to his sister Maryjane.

Maryjane worked as a waitress at LJ Seafood Restaurant all summer, so Daren took a taxi there.

Just as he went into the lobby of the restaurant, he saw a young woman in heavy makeup and a business suit. The woman stood in front of Maryjane with an arrogant look on her face.

"Maryjane, where have you been?"

Lesley Gill pointed at Maryjane's nose as she questioned her. She was the head waitress of the restaurant and had long disliked Maryjane.

"Lesley, the new semester is coming soon, so I just went to borrow money from my brother..."

Obviously afraid of Lesley, Maryjane answered in a low voice.

"Did you ask me for leave before you went out as you please?"

"Lesley, I couldn't find you or get through to you."

"You penniless beggar! You even need to borrow money for your tuition. What a loser to lead a life like that! How dare you leave without my permission? Do you take me seriously?"

Lesley was very pleased when she scolded Maryjane.

"It's all your pretty face's fault! You're getting all the guys. You desert it." Lesley sneered inwardly.

Seeing that Maryjane was being bullied, Daren hurried over. "Watch your mouth. How could you treat her like that?"

Pena sized Daren up and laughed out loud at his cheap outfit.

A loser trying to play hero by saving an attractive girl?

"Well, I just like to bully her. You got a problem with that?"
