  *Axel’s POV

Looking straight ahead in front of me, without minding what is behind nor what is beside me. Keeping my eyes focused on the goal. This is how I reach what I want to achieve. Being unfazed by any distractions. Or at least that is how I am now.

The road turned into a blur as I kept stepping on the gas. The only vivid thing I can see is the road in front of me towards the black and white checkered flag. The goal. My wheels are leaving dents in the road and a screeching sound emerges when I abruptly pull the emergency brake. I swiftly turn the steering wheel towards the right, making the car drift in a 180 degree angle and face the finish line that I just passed through. Smoke from the fast break clouded my view before it subsided and a satisfying smile formed on my lips.

“Whoa, bloody hell, man! Why are you in the shadows when you can be in the limelight with that superb skill of yours?” Alfred excitedly announce as he run towards me

Alfred fist pumped me when I got down from the midnight blue Audi R8 LMS GT2 I was driving. I am actually only test driving this car before the owner races it later this night. This car is owned by Tobias Davies, son of the owner of Drift Road, the racing arena I worked for.

I gave Alfred a smirk before throwing the keys into him and shrugging. “Everything is superb in the engine as well as the N2O. Just replace the tyre with a new one for better anti-slip and refill the nitro tank,” I said as I removed the top part of my overall suit uniform. I tie the sleeves around my waist, revealing my white V-neck shirt underneath.

I continued checking and maintaining the quality of the other cars for the next race later tonight. I am currently underneath one of the cars when I hear a female voice who is talking to Alfred.

“Good day, Alfred,” the woman said. Looking at the side of the car I can only see her feet to her knees. She is wearing some sort of high heels and based on her bare legs she might be wearing either a short or a skirt.

“Yes, beautiful lady. Is there something I can do for you?” Alfred asked her.

“Actually, yes Alfred and stop the chivalry, it does not suit you at all. I am here to get my brother’s car.” The woman said which only made Alfred laugh.

I find it quite odd how a woman would have any guts to come here and get a racing car with her high heels. Sure, enough women dress like that came here but only at night when the race is on and men are in. It really annoys me how these rich people are so spoiled that they no longer know how to properly act based on where they are, just because they have money and all.

“The Audi is already finished; my man already test drove it as well so we are good.” Alfred said as he walked towards the keys box.

Audi? She must be Tobias’ sister then.

“Excellent! Thanks, Alfred,” she said in a chirpy voice. How annoying.

I pushed myself out from underneath the car to fully get out from there and stood up as I spoke.

“The car is already fixed. There is really nothing much to do anyway, just maintenance. Who would be driving?” I said towards her.

I cannot even see her face properly because she is wearing a bright yellow hoodie and shorts.

“You are looking at her,” she said with a hint of being offended. I raise one of my eyebrows at her answer.

“With those heels?” I said with shock and a bit of insult in my voice as I motion towards her feet.

She did not speak for about a minute and just kept looking at me before glancing towards Alfred. “Is he a newbie, Alfred?”

“No, he is just inside most of the time. Besides he is a student, so he is rarely in here this early. Do not mind him, Beth” Alfred said as he stepped in the middle of us and gave her the keys to the Audi.

So, her name is Beth, never heard of her.

“Maybe it would be better to keep him inside after all,” she said as she received the keys and walked towards the car. She opened the door, took a glance and smirked at me before getting inside and driving away.

“What?” I asked Alfred who was shaking his head while looking at me and trying to hold a laugh.

“You, my man, just dig your own grave. When will you stop being prejudiced against rich people?” Alfred said as he taps my shoulder and grabs hold of the dry cloth for cars.

“I do not hate rich people. It just annoys me how they act. Who is she, anyway? Never knew that the owner got a daughter,” I asked.

“She never gets out actually or that’s what everyone thinks. Just get back to work Axel. You barked at the wrong tree this time because that woman in heels is probably much better than you are at driving,” Alfred said before laughing hard and getting back to polishing the other cars, leaving me confused.

“Hey, Alfred. You are lying, that girl cannot beat me at all. I doubt it. She doesn’t even know the basic shoe wear,” I said towards Alfred.

“Keep telling that to yourself man. It is your time out already, by the way,” he said and that made me look at the time.

I went to the locker room and changed into cleaner clothes and was about to go out of the mechanic shop when Alfred shouted at me.

“Good luck, man. You just became the finish line,” he laughingly said.

“You know what, Alfred? I am going home in hope that you will be back in your right state of mind tomorrow,” I said to him before going out while shaking my head. Ever since Beth came to the store, he was talking nonsense.
