"Avni, please", I exclaimed. "Please, try to understand."

"There's nothing left to be understood, Akshit", she said. I could see the despair and fear in her eyes. "I don't want to lose you Akshit..." She dissolved into tears.

I felt bad... I looked around. We were on our building terrace. This all was happening due to a drama that happened a while ago.

What a great birthday I had, I thought as I glanced over my watch, 10:47. I decided to calm her down. "Avni...  I whispered and tapped her  shoulder.

"Don't touch me", she warned. "I opposed my whole family, I opposed my parents, all of them... Just for you...And what did I get ? A boyfriend who is more interested in another girl, that too that cheap Tanvi !". She was almost screaming with pain. Each scream like a dagger to my heart... I couldn't have it anymore.

"I DON'T LIKE HER. How many times have I told you? Can't you put a simple thing like this in your brain?" I yelled. She looked even more hurt now.

"That bitch... she has changed you.... You were never like this", she said as she wiped her tears. "You were different when I first met you...  Sweet, simple, helping. You were so good," she said with an awkward smile.

This felt like hell. 15 minutes ago, all was so

good. A Surprise party with my friends at my home.

Multiple gifts, selfies, fun, games... it all felt so good.

Until, they decided to cut the cake. I didn't even expect this all would happen after that. They'd all sung the birthday song as I cut the cake. I took the first piece of cake and proceeded to give the first bite to Avni.

Now, almost everyone knew that she was my girlfriend. My friends at college, class...

Avni was gonna give me a bite too... But suddenly a girl with a piece of cake appeared out of nowhere and filled my mouth with it's sweet taste.

But it wasn't Avni.

I looked around. Tanvi...

Her face far closer to me than it should be.

"Happy Birthday Akshit", she said as gave me a slight peck on the cheek.

"Aehhhhh !!!!" All my friends screamed and took a handful of cake in their hands and colored my face with it.

"Yuck", I yelled. They all covered me up and started laughing. Oh God, I forgot about Avni. I thought as I started to look around. Amongst many crazy, funny, happy faces, I noticed a sad, dull one. Avni.

I struggled my way out, as I wiped up the cake on my face. There were tears in her eyes.

"Sorry Avni...", I managed to speak as I saw the piece of cake still in her hand. I took her hand and ate that cake too. I thought this would make her happy.

But no, her face was pale, lifeless. One last time, she took a quick glance at me and Tanvi, and ran outside the house, towards the stairs.

I looked back. All my friends were in utter shock.

"GO...", Devansh broke the silence. I saw her going upstairs. What the hell is she gonna do now ?

I was brought to my present by a harsh voice,

"Still dreaming about Tanvi ?", Avni shrieked. "My whole life is ruined." We were on the terrace and Avni has gone too close to the side railing.

"You are too close to the edge", I warned.

"So what, who cares ? You don't bother, continue to think about that bloody bitch, Tanvi."

"Don't call her a bitch. She's a good friend of mine. Ok ?", I finally blurted out. Enough of this.

"Oh ho, little boy gets hurt if I call his friend with benefits as bitch", she smirked as she took a step closer to the edge.

"Avni, you are...", I was gonna speak but cut short by her words..."Who cares ?"

"Yes, I don't CARE. Who the fuck cares ? NO ONE. Fuck you Avni. Fuck you Tanvi.... Whatever. I live my life for me. Not for others. I don't need anyone....

Sabka katega... Vinay was right. I lost. You made great use of me. Wow. Hats off", I clapped sarcastically. I was going mad second by second.

"That bastard, Maanav. I knew you were into him.

But I thought I could control it. But Naa.... He always gets you in his talks and hangs out with you and maybe even...", I said.

"Please STOPPP !!! Maanav is good. He's one of my best friends. Don't talk about him like this. He is not like this. He just talks to me and knows me quite well. That's what it is all about", she gulped.

" He's not what you think. He is always surrounded by girls. He just knows how to trap girls onto him. Why can't you understand ? He's a fucking playb...

"Basss... Enough. I've heard enough. I can't hear people talking about my friend like this", she said.

"People, huh ? Minutes ago, I was your boyfriend. And now I'm one of the PEOPLE." I smashed the box I had in my pocket onto the ground.

The sound of glass shattering caused her to shiver.

"You know what ? It's all over.

IT'S ALL OVER. BYE AVNI", I said as I took one last glance at the shattered glass inside which was a beautiful silver ring I'd brought for her, before I left for the exit. Slamming hard the door behind me.

My legs faltered as I walked downstairs. Back of the mind, I was still expecting her to return. But she didn't come. Instead I heard some whistle blowing, watchman ? Regardless, I came back to the party, shoulders  drooping down.

That's when I heard some sirens and people screaming. We all hurried downstairs as fast as we could. Could it be ? No. No. No. Akshit, please don't get such thoughts in your mind.

We got out of the building where various policemen were standing and asking questions. I saw a big crowd near the road. I hurried towards it. Pushing everyone aside. The police tried to catch me. But I pushed them aside too. I got into the crowd's centre. I saw light.

A girl in a beautiful white fairy dress, all stained with red patches of crimson blood. The crown on her head was broken to pieces. Her hands free, dazing along with her smooth hair. Her bare lips seemed to say something.

I knew who she was. I didn't want to say who. Words didn't come out of my mouth. The policemen had held both of my hands and were shaking me hard.

They were saying something but I couldn't hear them. My eyes fixed on Avni. I could do nothing but stare in horror.

The world around me rotated. I fell down. Nausea overcame my senses. I took a last glance of our 8 storey building before I blacked out.

"It shouldn't have ended like this. It shouldn't have...", I murmured.
