There was a house in a quiet suburban neighborhood and inside her room getting dressed for work was Drew Anders; a twenty-three year college business student with long dark hair, brown skin and eyes like the sun, big and bright. She was wearing in a black office dress and was standing in front of her mirror touching herself up to make sure she looked perfect. Just then a knock came to her door and a second later it opened with her mom walking in; wearing a bathrobe.

"Huh there she is, good morning sweetie," mom said.

"Good morning mom," Drew turned to her and said.

"Aw look how cute you look."

"Cute, mom no that is so not the look I'm going for. I'm going to intern at one of the top advertising firms in the country, I have to look sophisticated I can't walk in there looking cute, they're going to eat me again. I have to change," she said and headed for her closet.

"No honey you do look sophisticated."

"You just said I look cute."

"Yes cute sophisticated."

"Ugh there's that word again," Drew said.

"What's wrong with looking cute?"

"For my first day at a top business firm, not good. I have to look sophisticated you know like I belong there."

"And you do," mom said.

"So stop telling me I look cute."

"But you are cute."

"Mom!" Drew went.

"The face sweetie, the face is cute as always and the look is sophisticated, enter cute sophisticated."

"So the dress is sophisticated and not cute?"

"Yes, the dress is sophisticated you're good," mom said.

"O.k. good, almost made me change my dress there. I can't be walking in there looking cute, it is a serious internship I have to look serious."

"Well you look it."

"Not too serious I hope?" Drew asked.

"No no just the right amount of serious."

"Good, the heels are not too much?"

"Oh no, the pop of colour is complimenting the dress perfectly," mom said.

"Awesome," she said and walked back to the mirror to continue checking herself.

"Oh how exciting the first day of work."

"Yes, it’s like the first day of school only a hundred times more nerve wrecking."

"But you’re older and wiser now," mom said.

"Yes and have much more to prove."

"Right, well you are an Anders after all and there is nothing we set our minds to that we can not do."

"Isn't that the exact same thing you said to me on my first day of high school?" Drew turned to her and asked.

"If it ain't broke."

"O.k." They chuckled.

"Relax, you’re going to do great honey," mom said.

"I hope so."

"You will."

"It's a whole new place with whole new people mom," Drew said.

"Yes it will be a little awkward at first but you will begin to fit in and everything's going to work out fine."

"I'd have to make friends."

"Yes, friends are good. They'll help you scale on by," mom said.

"But I don't know how to make friends. There's a reason why Tina's my only friend."

"No she's not, she's your best friend, you have other friends."

"No I don't. She's my best friend because she's my only friend," Drew said. "Because I am terrible at making friends."

"Who's terrible at making friends?"

"I am."

"How?" mom asked.

"You know how weird I get; I won't talk to someone unless they talk to me first."

"O.k. then switch let's switch things up, how about this time you start talking to them."

"Yeah that's not going to happen," Drew said shaking her head.

"Honey."

"What else you got coz I'm not doing that; do you know how annoying people find people that just walk around greeting people? Very annoying and I am not going to be categorized as one of those people on my first day, absolutely not."

"O.k. then wear a smile so that they can see you as approachable and say hi to you first," mom said. "And then you can say hi back and things can go from there."

"O.k. that I can do."

"Yeah, do that and you'll be golden."

"Thanks mom," Drew said.

"You're welcome."

"Gosh I hope I do well. I do not want to let my head of department down or myself."

"You won't. You’re one of the smartest people in your class, if anyone can get this done sweetie it is you," mom said.

"You really believe I can do this?"

"Absolutely honey."

"But G & W is one of the top business firms in the country, only the best of the best work there which means I have to be at my best," Drew said.

"Great then be at your best."

"Easier said than done mom."

"Not really, just tell yourself what you have to do and do it," mom said.

"It's interesting how easy you take things sometimes."

"Thank you."

"It wasn't a compliment," Drew said and they chuckled.

"Stop worrying you'll be fine. You're smart, beautiful, funny and you have such a beautiful personality about you. Just be yourself, don't try to impress anyone, don't rush to get the work done quick take your time, don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something and always say please and thank you."

"Right, I can do this."

"Absolutely, your head of department wouldn't have selected you to go there if he didn't believe you could make it."

"Thanks mom," Drew said and walked up to hug her and she hugged her back.

"I love you baby."

"I love you too."

"You are going to do great," she said and Drew smile to herself as they hugged on.

A half an hour later Drew arrived at the Goldberg and Worthington building, G & W, and the elevator opening on the floor she was headed to, she walked out

and just stood there looking around for a moment. There were a few people walking about here and there with the majority of them working in their cubicles and a front desk where the receptionist sat, next to a small lounging area where people waited to be attended to. Done taking in the ambiance Drew then walked to the front desk to the receptionist Stella.

"Good morning and welcome to Goldberg and Worthington creative department," Stella greeted rising from her seat.

"Good morning, thank you," Drew said.

"How can I help you?"

"I am Drew Anders, I'm here for work."

"Right the intern," Stella said.

"Yes, that's me."

"O.k. awesome, please take a seat whilst I call someone to come and meet with you."

"O.k. great thank you."

"No problem," she said and sat down to make a call as Drew walked into the lounging area and sat down on one of the comfy sofas; looking out the view of the city buildings through the large windows bringing in beautiful daylight.

A moment later, a woman came out from the main hallway and approached the lounge. Her name was Joy and she was thirty-five years old; slender and model looking and dressed quite fashionable.

"Drew Anders," Joy said and Drew turned to her.

"Yes." Drew said shooting to her feet.

"Hi?"

"Hello." They shook hands.

"How are you doing?"

"I'm good, thanks."

"Awesome, find your way up here o.k.?" Joy asked.

"Yes I did."

"Good, well welcome to Goldberg & Worthington advertising."

"Thank you," Drew said.

"I am Joy Hunter and I am the chief art director."

"Ooh nice."

"Thank you," Joy said. "Walk with me."

"O.k.," she said and followed behind her; heading across the floor to the hallway from which she came.

"So you went through the portfolio and know exactly what it is we do here right?"

"Yes I did, I do."

"O.k. on top of that we run a very successful business that has made us one of the best business firms in the country for the past many years and we seek to keep it that way so your addition here must ensure that," Joy said as they walked on.

"Yes."

"Fresh minds always coming up with new and innovative ways of doing things and making significant contributions to the company, are we together?"

"Crystal," Drew responded.

"Right so Goldberg and Worthington commonly known as G & W is a business powerhouse that deals with almost all the sectors of business. We have a marketing department, sales, accounting, consultancy, a law firm, insurance, vehicle purchase, bureau de change and a high fashion men and women's clothing store, all in this building and being run by extremely competent individuals whose sole purpose is not to just get the job done but to get it done effectively, you with me?"

"I'm with you."

"Good," Joy said and walked up to the door of an office and opened; walking in with Drew walking in behind her. "O.k. this is where you will be working from?"

"Whoa, it's a whole office."

"Yes it is." It was a large corner office with a killer view of the city; nicely put together and fit for a boss.

"You’re giving me an entire office?"

"Yes we are. The person who was using it retired and so it has been sitting idle for like 2 months now so why waste it when it can be put to use."

"And there is no one else out there who can come in here?" Drew asked.

"No, there are lower ranking employees and this area is restricted to the top ranking employees only."

"So why am I being put in here?"

"You consider yourself a lower ranking employee?" Joy asked.

"No, lower actually, at least they even work here I don't. I'm just an intern, I don't think it's right for me to get a whole office, especially one as big and as nice as this one when actual employees are out there working in cubicles."

"Oh they're fine, they love it out there; they say the lack of personal space makes them work even better together so you don't need to worry about them, they are perfectly fine right where they are."

"So it is o.k. for me to be in here?" Drew asked.

"It is super o.k. for you to be in here."

"O.k.," she said and looked around. "Wow."

"Cozy huh?"

"Yes."

"Well happy birthday," Joy said and they chuckled.

"Thank you."

"Right, so you are going to be reporting directly to Mr. Worthington; he's the one who's going to be teaching you and giving you a hands on experience of just what this industry entails."

"Whoa wait, Mr. Worthington as in Ian Worthington?" Drew asked.

"Yes."

"He is the CEO and co-owner of G & W."

"Yes he is," Joy answered.

"And he's the one I'm going to be reporting to?"

"Yes."

"Like directly reporting to?" Drew asked.

"Yes, is that going to be a problem?"

"In terms of my nervousness being the death of me yes, he is the CEO and co-owner of G & W."

"Yes and he is also a person just like the rest of us," Joy said.

"Yeah but with billions of money and of super high status."

"Still just a person." Drew's heart beat a little out of her chest. "Relax, you'll be fine." They chuckled. "He’s currently out on a business trip but he’ll be back soon, so you can just use this time to look through what exactly we do here and the accounts that we have running and get yourself up to date and he’ll come and orient you through it all properly."

"Cool."

"Great and if there’s anything you need just let me know o.k., my office is right next door," Joy said.

"Sure thing, thank you so much."

"No problem," she said and walked out of the office as Drew remained walking further in; putting her handbag on the desk and walking up to the window where she stood taking in the lovely view with a wide smile on her face.

"Oh gosh look at this view. And this office. I am here as an intern and I get my own office oh my gosh I think I'm going to love it here . . . I think I'm going to like it here very much," she said to herself and went on taking in the lovely view.

A few hours later, Drew was in the lounge making herself a cup of coffee. The lounge had a sitting area with a large 'L' shaped sofa on one side and a kitchen with glass cupboards that were well stocked on the other. She had her cup under the coffee maker and was waiting for it to fill. Just then Joy entered the room and walked up to her.

"Oh my goodness what the heck is that?" Joy asked and Drew burst into laughter. "What is that?" She laughed on.

"It's the mug isn't it?"

"Of course it's the mug, what is that?"

"Oh gosh I was hoping to be done before anybody showed up, this is embarrassing," Drew said.

"Is that Barney?"

"Yes it is."

"Why?" Joy asked and they laughed. "Please explain why this monstrosity is in my presence."

"It is not a monstrosity."

"I am looking right at it, yes it is." They laughed.
