I have always wanted to get married to the man of my dreams. Every time I looked at his pictures or heard him on the radio, I would fantasize about being his wife. I just didn’t know that such dreams can be costly for me

I went to my father’s room as I took in a deep breath before opening the door. This is the second attempt to talk to him about letting me get married to Christian.

He does not even want to hear his name in this house but I told myself that today I would convince him to change his mind and let me get married to him.

I studied law so that when I get married to Christian and he gets in trouble I would be able to help him but my father has been against it.

“Father, please! Just listen to what I have to say,” I pleaded with him as I followed him behind while he walked to his office.

“Are you crazy? How do you expect me to give up my daughter just so that my company can get invested into? I am not going to sell my daughter!” He said the second time to me. What did he mean by selling me? I will get married to that man.

“You are not selling me, please let me do this” I pleaded with him once more for him to let me get married.

“I will not allow it. Forget about it, you will not throw away all the morals you have for such a thing,” He said as he barged into his study room shutting the door before my eyes, I sighed heavily, looking at the door. Why was he being so stubborn? I mean, I will get married to help our company.

Why was he so hard-headed? I inwardly asked myself as I lowered my head. I loved my father more than anything in this world and I would do anything to help him get back on his feet, but he wasn’t letting me.

“Why do you look so downcast?” My mother asked me as I heard the click-clack sound of her heels down the corridor. I swallowed hard, turning to her as she folded her arms, looking at me.

“He just won’t listen to me no matter what I say to him,” I said walking towards her as I sighed heavily.

“Do you think I would listen to you as well? Jasmine, you are only 26 years old and already have a superb job so I suggest that you forget about this marriage it is a call for destruction. Those people are ruthless, I don’t think I can allow you to get married to such people.” She said grabbing both of my hands, pleadingly looking at me so that I can change my mind but I was so focused on it.

How could I let my family down like this?

“Mom, please just let me do this, okay? I don’t care if I love the man or not. I am doing great, in case you have forgotten I went to the academy during the time I was at law school and I can definitely take care of myself, I will be fine,” I pleaded with her as she chuckled softly letting go of my hand.

“You have no idea, right?” She questioned me as I pleadingly looked into her eyes. She shook her head.

“I have always supported you in everything. But this? I am afraid your father is right, erase the thought and everything will be fine. I am sure your father will figure out something,” She said to me as she turned to head back to her room, I sighed heavily as I thought about what my mother just said.

I looked at my father’s study room door for the last time before I turned to go to my bedroom, I really needed to think of a way to help my father.

My father runs a retail company that he took over from my grandfather ten years ago after he died in a plane crash, I have watched him work hard every single day but the company wasn’t just doing fine; he has tried to get investments, but every time the investors just don’t want to invest.

I sighed heavily as I entered my room, throwing myself on the bed, thinking of how we got here. A few weeks ago, I found out that my father’s company wasn’t doing too well, so he met with Albert Rivera to get him to invest, but it didn’t end well as he asked for something impossible.

“Let it be done through a union between the two families,” He said to my father, but my father being the honorable man he is. He turned down the opportunity.

“What’s wrong? Is this still about that marriage issue?” Claire asked me as she came from the bathroom, I reluctantly nodded my head as she came to sit next to me.

“Wow! Are you really going ahead pushing for this? I thought father made it clear already to you,” She said to me as I shook my head. She didn’t understand what this was about.

“Come on! Don’t push for this, those people are dangerous. No woman has ever agreed to get married to that family, but you want to? Mina, those people are murders,” She said to me as I exhaled heavily turning away from her. She never understood me because she is not the one going through all this.

“In case you have forgotten, I am a lawyer and I know the law. Surely, I can take of herself. I have fought criminals every day of my life before, what’s one more?” I questioned my little sister.

“Mina, you can’t do anything about this. Let father sort this out. Christian only goes out with women he likes, if he doesn’t do you know what happens to you? Please, just let this go,” She pleaded with me, but I set my mind on making sure that I get my father to change his mind.

“Do you still want to go out tonight?” I questioned her, sitting up on my bed as I looked at her. She sighed heavily, looking into my eyes.

“What are you thinking of doing?” she questioned me.

I smiled vividly looking into her eyes; I had just come up with the perfect idea that would eventually cause my father to change his mind.

“Mina, I don’t like the sound of this. Whatever it is just don’t…” She wanted to say, but I placed my finger on her lips.

“Shush… You talk too much” I said to her as I got off the bed, I was going to get my father to change his mind even if he didn’t want to get me married. I would not let his company go under because of his stubbornness, so I would meet the very man that would convince my father otherwise.
