Janessa Bartlett was sinking into sleep, then she found herself being enveloped in a cool embrace. She made a slight attempt to resist and pushed away, mumbling words of reproach in her half-awake state.

"Mrs. Rosario, you've missed me, haven't you?" A warm breath tickling her ear made it irritatingly ticklish.

To hide her embarrassment, she quickly grabbed a new blanket and went into the kid's room, embracing her deeply sleeping child as she lay down.

She drew close to her daughter's tiny warm body, trying to regain the warmth that had just been disrupted.

In the morning, her daughter Sara joyfully asked, "Mom, daddy will be coming to the sports day tomorrow, right? I know daddy is back."

Janessa's hand, which was pouring milk, paused mid-air. She helplessly said, "Where did you see daddy? Daddy hasn't come back."

But Sara seemed not to hear her, picked up her phone, "I want to call daddy. He has to come."

After several rings, no one answers. Sara pouted, her eyes – strikingly similar to Kameron Rosario's –full of disappointment.

Janessa knew that in their five years of marriage, even though they had a child, he was a top figure in the financial world. It was an inevitable circumstance that led to their married life, but Kameron didn't love her.

She had known this from the beginning. So, how could he feel anything for the child who came into this world unexpectedly?

She didn't want her child to be disappointed, so she squatted next to Sara, "Daddy will surely come."

"Then mom, can you pick me up early from kindergarten today?"

"Sure, sweetheart."

After seeing her child off, she hurried off to the hospital.

She was the lead Obstetrician-Gynecologist at the city center. Since the two-child policy was introduced, there's been a noticeable surge of enthusiasm regarding childbirth. She had a lot of patients today.

From morning till night, she conducted six surgeries in a row, nearly breaking her back.

She glanced at her watch and, to her surprise, realized it was time to pick up her child early. The thought of her daughter, Sara, looking so upset made her heart ache.

She hurriedly picked up the child, not wanting to disappoint her any further. She dialed Kameron's number, but the phone was answered by a young woman's voice.

"May I ask what you need? He's currently unavailable. If it's urgent, I can relay your message," the young woman's voice chimed, sounding sweet and melodious.

A lump formed in Janessa's throat, as though she'd swallowed a dead fly. She looked visibly distraught.

She bit her lip, creasing her eyebrows slightly. "Never mind, wrong number..."

The next time she picked up the phone, it rang.

On the other side of the line, the hospital director's voice came through hurried and worried.

"Janessa, you must come back to help this time. Mollie has gone to Japan for studies, and several chief surgeons went along with him. The only ones left who can handle surgeries are you and Dr. Turner. But Dr. Turner had to return home for a funeral yesterday, and can't make it back today. There's a pregnant woman whose condition is very critical. If we don't perform a surgery to abort the child immediately, the woman's life will be in danger..."
