As the shadows started lurking on this cold, pitiful night. They sensed a human nearby.

“Fredrick!” One of the demons, named Jake hissed. “Do you hear that?” Jake whispered. Frederick straightened up and nodded slowly.

“That is indeed a child. But how come is it here? This city was burned to ashes by the Devil’s children!” He annoyingly said.

“I don’t know. Shall we go ask Timothy?” Jake spoke. Frederick glared down at him and shook his head.

“No, he knows too much. We need to check on this ‘child’ and then we can find Tim.” As the two demons followed the cries of the child. The wind set them onto a path where they were about to discover the next Shadow Queen.

“Evalina, come. He awaits you.” Jake spoke and held his arm out. Evalina looked at him emotionless and took his arm.

“Lead the way, brother.” She softly said. Evalina and Jake walked down the hallway and into Tim’s room. They walked in and saw their boss on the throne listening to music.

Jake nods, leaving Evalina alone with the Prince of Shadows.

“Ah, Evalina! It is such a pleasure to see you! Now, follow me if you don’t mind.” Timothy took off his headphones and put them on the side of his throne, where a small table stood. He walks down and pulls out his arm.

Evalina took it and they started walking through the castle of the Shadow kingdom.

“My dear, as you know. Humans are very interesting creatures in this world. As you are aware, we took you in when Jake and Fred saw you in the cold streets of the Shadow Kingdom. You must understand that we ‘demons’ aren’t what those humans think of us. So what I am asking from you is, you must go into the human cities and find out the information they might be hiding. I hope you understand your task. You must disguise yourself as one of them and pretend to be like them. Find their ways of living and figure out who is in charge of their kind.” Tim spoke sternly. Evalina nodded and smiled.

“I shall not fail you, my father.” She bows down and decides to leave. Timothy smirked as she called him her ‘father’ when they both knew that she wasn’t a demon, unlike the rest of the kingdom.

Evalina was packing for her human visit trip. Jake and Frederick came into her room, wondering where she was headed.

“Sister Ev. We want to know, where are you leaving? What did the prince say?” Jake spoke in concern. It was clear to him that he got attached to the young girl. He did raise her as his own. And he didn’t like the idea of her leaving without a friend or foe.

Evalina looked at the two brothers standing against the wooden, black-painted door. She rolled her eyes playfully and zipped her suitcase.

“Prince Timothy, aka father. Asked me to enter the human world. He wants me to gain trust with humans and the creatures among them. He decided that they are hiding something and he wants to know what. As his only daughter, I must prove that I can do the job alone. I know you might be worried about me but I am 17 years old. You need to have a bit of faith in me.” She looked at her brothers who stood in shock.

“Excuse me?! Father asked you to do what!?” Frederick roared in rage, making Evalina flinch.

“Brother, calm down. I think it’s not a good idea to yell at our sister.” Jake spoke loudly so his brother would hear him out.

Frederick sighed and grasps his black hair. “Sorry, I am just annoyed at the fact that father would allow Evalina to go into that horrid place!” He growled. Evalina smiled gently and hugged her two brothers.

“I will be alright, I promise to write every day. And since Ella is my gifted bird,” She whistles for her friend, Ella. The beautiful young raven with black with a gray spot on its chest flew in through the window and sat on her arm. Evalina pats Ella and kisses her.

“She shall keep me safe. Now fly my friend, be my eyes in the sky.” Ella fled off and cawed. Evalina looked at her brothers one last time and smiled.

“Trust me. I will be okay.” She spoke, knowing that Fred and Jake will be afraid something bad would happen to their little sister.
