A man held a woman in his arms. They lay motionlessly in blood with gunshot wounds all over their bodies. Even though they were not breathing anymore, the man still covered the woman with his body. Some distance away, several men with guns in their hands were laughing triumphantly.

"Splendid, Oscar. I can't believe you could kill Yosef."

"If she weren't so damn stupid, I wouldn't be able to kill Yosef easily. You really shouldn't have fallen in love with her, Yosef Grande." Staring at Yosef lying in the blood, the man named Oscar Elton sneered.

"What a shame. Such a beauty died just like that."

"What? Don't tell me that you're interested in her body."

The woman was Lexie Blanchett, who was already dead right at this moment. A drop of blood rolled down her beautiful but pale face, like a drop of a tear with despair and anger. The mole at the corner of her eye turned red with her blood.

The next moment, Lexie was shocked to find that she was floating in the air. She looked at the bodies of herself and Yosef in grief. Laughing, those people began kicking, hitting, and shooting at Yosef for fun.

"Don't touch him! Get your hands off him!" she yelled, throwing herself at the people who were shooting at Yosef.

However, no one could hear or see Lexie. Her body passed through them. Lexie could do nothing but look at Yosef, who still wanted to protect her even after he died. He was a man filled with pride. What had he done to deserve such an insult?

"No!" Lexie let out a desperate cry.

It was as if her soul had been shattered into pieces. It got completely dark all of a sudden. In the twinkling of an eye, Lexie blacked out.

...

...

Lexie didn't know how long she had been passing out. Suddenly, her eyes flew open with coldness and hatred.

The sunlight streamed through the curtain, driving the darkness away. Lexie woke up to find she was in a grey room.

Lexie had no idea where she was. She gently moved her body. Yet strangely, her body ached all over as if she had been torn apart.

She wondered, "I remember I was dead. How can a corpse feel pain?"

"Don't go." A husky voice suddenly sounded. It somehow sounded familiar to Lexie.

Lexie froze. The anger and hatred on her face instantly turned into shock.

She widened her eyes in disbelief after she saw the man lying beside her. His handsome face, his shining eyes, and his tempting lips tugged at her heartstrings.

Lexie wondered, <Yosef? It's Yosef!

Wait. What happened? Didn't we already die?>

Lexie looked around. The bedroom was luxurious. And everything in this room seemed familiar. It was Yosef's room.

Lying on the bed, both of them were naked. The white sheets were stained with a little blood. Everything in the bed was a mess. It was not hard to imagine what happened before.

She thought, "What's going on?"

Lexie looked closely at Yosef. There weren't any cuts or injuries she caused in his face. She couldn't see any wrinkles either. He seemed energetic. What was more, Yosef was breathing. He was alive!

Lexie couldn't take her eyes off Yosef. She was afraid that Yosef would be gone the next second.

Yosef was at a young age, so was she.

Lexie pinched her thigh hard. It hurt, so it was not a dream.

It struck her that she came back to life for some reason. However, it seemed like it was not the right timing. Lexie was sure that she had had sex with Yosef. At this moment, Lexie's heart nearly pounded out of her chest.

Her elation and hope replaced her sorrow and resentment. The scene of Yosef risking his life to protect her kept replaying in her head.

She just watched Yosef sitting up and getting dressed. His muscular back and his military uniform gave her a sense of security.

Yosef was hunky, looking amazingly hot with his skin tone and his six—pack. Only one word could describe Yosef's body. And that would be "perfect".

Lexie blushed slightly and turned her head.

However, Yosef's face darkened when he saw her looking away. He thought Lexie did that because she hated him. Before leaving, Yosef looked at her with a complicated expression.

"Please... Don't be scared of me."

Lexie didn't respond. No one knew how surprised and joyful she was when she saw Yosef. She couldn't even utter a word.

Lexie blinked with her big innocent eyes. In Jamesburgh, if there was one who was not afraid of Yosef, it would only be her.

In her previous life, she was a laughingstock. The man she loved used her to get close to Yosef and even assassinate him. She felt extremely regretful to get Yosef killed.

Lexie didn't expect that the man who she had always tried to escape from loved her that much and was willing to die for her.

Lexie lost in thoughts, <How lucky I am to meet you again.

Yosef, I won't fail you this time.>
