"You know people could mistake you for having bipolar disorder," Eva said as she sat up in a tree staring down at Ava.

I raised a brow. "Why would someone think that?"

"Well..." She said as she hung upside down from the tree branch.

"When we have a mission to do your personality and demeanor becomes cold and soulless and you got that 'I don't give a shit about anything' attitude. But on a normal day you're all happy and annoying and stuff," She said as she swung back and forth.

Evangeline was my fraternal twin sister from our mortal days on Earth to now as we are Angels, that was all we were ever truly allowed to know of our past mortals lives and even then that was pushing it. We are Angels, the children of the Moon Goddess who aid in her wishes and commands and play out our assigned roles in her divine world.

Every Angel had a role they were responsible for, whether it were to guard the Divine Moon Goddess herself, protect humans or werewolves, guard the Underworld or the gates of Sanctity but in this case mine was to assassinate.

Sometimes the Moon Goddess's creations were morally unfit to continue living in her mortal realm and I amongst may others were given the responsibility of releasing their souls so that they may go through judgement.

I assassinate bad people.

Amongst us there were 5 assassin Angels and I was the highest rank of them all, that's how I got my black wings. I was trained to kill with no mercy and harbor no hate in my heart.

"Ava! Eve!" We both heard a scream. I stood up and brushed the dirt off myself as Eva jumped out of the tree as we rushed to the sound if the scream.

There, crouched a small red head in the bushes with extremely pale skin and beautiful green eyes.

"Elizabeth what are you doing?" I hissed.

All of a sudden there came a large growl from behind me as both Eva and I froze. We slowly turned around and was greeted by a gray rogue wolf baring its canines at us, ready to pounce on us at any moment. I stepped forward as I held my hands up, trying to show that I was not a threat.

"Rogue we mean no trouble, turn back to where you came from and we won't harm you," I warned.

It stamped its paw into the ground with aggravation dancing in its eyes as it growled and began charging at us. In a flash I pulled my knife out of my boot and watched as it grew into a full sword just as the wolf pounced on top of me, plunging itself onto my sword as it pierced its heart. I laid there with a now bleeding wolf on top of me with a sword plunged into its heart.

Not something I was a fan of.

I pushed the lifeless beast off me and dusted my self off, getting up from the ground.

Avangeline, are you alright?" Eva asked as she stood next to me.

"Don't ever call me that, but yes I am fine," I slightly hissed as I minimized my sword and stuff it back into my boot, hidden from anyone's gaze except my own.

I trudged back over to the bushes where I plucked out the small redhead and held her in my arms as we made our way back to the camp site.

"I told you to stay near the camp," I scowled her.

"I'm sorry Ava," She said as she buried her face into the pit of my shoulder and I smiled, I just couldn't find it in me to stay mad at her. She was just too adorable.

Elizabeth was the same stolen child I saved from that pack 6 months ago, she was a small baby at the time but due to vampire genes and their rapid growth through a certain time period she was now about 7 in human years.

Once we reached the campsite I noticed Eve standing in the middle of the clearing as she looked up into the sky, her pupils glittering a beautiful gold as she continued to stare up at the sun, a slight tear shedding from her eyes. This was the way our Divine Moon Goddess chose to communicate with us Angels, speaking through our minds and appearing as an image we deep desired. That was one of the ultimate powers of the Divine herself.

Eve lowered her head as she blinked multiple times, her eyes slowly reverting back to their original color as she looked over as me and beckoned for me to come closer.

"The Moon Goddess has granted a mission for us but it's too dangerous for the child to tag along," She said as she motioned towards the child, Elizabeth.

"Then we can just take her to the white wolves, no big deal," I said nonchalantly as I shrugged my shoulders.

"Our mission starts there anyway," Was all she said before her large silky white wings painfully sprouted from out of her back and she took off flying into the sky.

I sighed.

I looked up into the sky and noticed it was a dark and cloudy day which meant not as many of the sun's harmful rays shone through the clouds so I could carry Elizabeth without such a big fear that she could get burned. I felt the bones inside of my body twisting and arranging painfully throughout my back, a pain that no longer fazes me and sure enough my pure midnight black sprouted from my skin as I ruffled them in satisfaction, the shine from each feather reflecting from the very little light poking through the clouds. Amongst all the ranked assassin Angels, my wings were the biggest due to my status. To other known mythical creatures I was only a legend that people whispered about, I was an idol only the most powerful dreamed to meet.

I grabbed a hold of Elizabeth as I held her in my arms tightly, securing her so she wouldn't fall.

"Hold on little one," I said calmly before taking off into the sky.

It felt so freeing, having the wind blowing into my curly jet black hair, to zoom past the green tree tops and to just have the entire world right under you. Flying always made me feel free like there were no worries in the world.

I looked down at Elizabeth to make sure she was alright in my arms, I made sure to fly below the clouds so they could shield her from the sun's harmful rays. By foot it would have taken about a day to get to the white wolves pack from where we were temporarily located but by flying it would simply take a couple hours.

"Who is the target?" I asked Eve as I flew up right next to her.

"There is an Alpha in the northern region who managed to capture a white wolf and he plans to use dark magic to take her rare wolf spirit and use it as his own," She shouted as the wind began pounding into our ears from our speed.

I shook my head, trying to imagine what malicious Alpha would do such a thing to his own kind?

A monster that needed to be destroyed.

"Which Alpha is it?" I asked.

"Alpha Jason,"

Evangeline was always sympathetic when it came to taking the life of a werewolf, especially Alpha's, she was never fond of doing it herself but I on the other hand did not care whose chest I was driving my sword into. I never had good experiences with Alpha's, especially not since.....him.

I looked down to analyze my surroundings and realized we were drawing closer and closer to the white wolf pack.

"Ava do the thing!" Elizabeth squealed as she began to wiggle in my grasp. I looked over at Eve as she smiled and immediately dove down under me.

I wrapped my wings around both Elizabeth and I as we began falling out of the sky, spiraling our way down to the Earth.

Elizabeth squealed with joy and just as I knew Eve was right below me I opened my wings like a parachute, ignoring the sheer pain to my wings due to the sudden force of the wind and resistance of my wings, and let Elizabeth fall. I hovered in the air for a moment as I watched the small red head squeal for joy as she flapped her arms almost as if she had wings of her own.

Eve, now her back facing the ground and her arms outstretched for Elizabeth to fall in them, she caught her and wrapped her beautiful white wings around them both and began falling to the ground.

I dove down as fast as I could like a speeding bullet and landed on the ground creating a huge crater from the impact. Eve outstretched her wings let go of Elizabeth, I watched as she fell right into my arms, still squealing with joy.

"Let's do it again!" She laughed.

"Maybe later little one," I chuckled.

She pouted as I gently placed her on the ground.

"Must you always play with my emotions Ava?" I heard his all too familiar deep voice from behind me.

I turned around to see a tall man with long blonder hair up in a pony tail standing behind me with a large grin on his face.

"What did I do Nicholas?" I asked, mocking him.

He stepped forward so that I was now able to see him more clearly. His blue eyes seemed slightly saddened behind that cheerful smile, his skin seemed more dull and tired.

This wasn't the Alpha Nicholas I was used to seeing.

"I hate when you play that game with the kid, I'm always terrified that you're not going to catch her," He said seriously, his smile immediately dropping.

I slapped his arm and rolled my eyes.

"Oh lighten up you big baby, I'm the black winged Angel, I always catch her,"

He smiled once more as he wrapped his arms around my waist, I came in reciprocating the hug. Instinctively my wings wrapped around Nicholas and I bringing us much closer together. It was warm and inviting within this hug, it was almost as if I never wanted to leave.

I unwrapped my wings and lightly blushed.

"Sorry it's an instinct," I muttered as I looked away.

He simply smirked and looked down at Elizabeth.

"Hello little red, did you miss me?" He grinned down at her.

"Did you see me, I was flying!" She squealed as she bounced up and down.

Eve finally landed as she walked over to us, taking Eliza's small hand into hers.

"Come on Eliza, let's take you to see Bethany," Eve said.

She nodded her head as she skipped next to Eve on their way to the pack house.

Nicholas finally turned back to me and sighed, the exhausted look on his face beginning to show more clearly.

"I'm guessing you heard about Lucie getting kidnapped?" He asked.

I nodded.

Lucie was Nicholas's younger sister and one of 12 pack members. Nicholas was Alpha of the white wolf pack, since white wolves were extremely rare and closest to the Moon Goddess than all the other wolves, he was sworn to protect the entire pack with his last dying breath.

"Come on," He beckoned for me to follow him towards the pack house.

We stepped into the grand building that was their pack house, built just big enough for around 20 people to comfortably live. As we walked through the house we ended up in his office which seemed destroyed. Broken bookshelf, holes plastered all throughout the walls, papers everywhere and his broken computer.

He collapsed in his chair as he let out a tired sigh, rubbing his hands against his face.

"Ava, your wings," He said, pointing behind me.

I looked behind me and noticed my wings folded neatly behind me.

"Sorry," I said as my bones shifted, my wings disappearing from sight. I took a seat in the only seat that wasn't broken.

"Alright down to business...woah," Eve said as she peered into the room.

"Yeah, when I found out that Lucie was kidnapped I just couldn't control myself. I desperately need you guys to find her and bring her back safely," Nick pleaded.

Eve simply nodded and left leaving Nicholas and I alone. I stood up and went to sit on Nicholas's lap. He wasn't my mate or my boyfriend but we once were in an intimate relationship. He was there for me when I was going through a rough patch and he didn't even know it. When I was torn down and my confidence destroyed all by that one person.

He was there for me when I was most unstable but in the end we agreed we could no longer be together, he was a wolf and I was an Angel who would be gone for months at a time. It would be most unfair to his mate most of all.

That didn't stop the feelings that we had for each other even though we both knew it wouldn't end well. I rested my head on his shoulder as he sighed.

"I really need you to find her Avangeline," He said quietly.

I slightly flinched at my name and cringed my nose.

"I will find her and I will kill the bastard that took her, after all I cannot fail a mission," I said angrily.

He planted a small kiss on my cheek as he whispered "Thank you," into my ear.

I got up from his lap and smiled as I left his office and walked outside.

As I walked out of the door I heard a scream from behind me and a sharp pain in my back.

"Evangeline I'm going to murder you!" I shouted angrily as she ran off giggling.

"I like to see you try!" She shouted back.

I reached behind me and pulled the knife out of my back that she stuck in there without flinching as I instantly healed. One benefit of being an Angel was instant regeneration no matter the injury.

I stood there as I closed my eyes and imagined a silver bow in my hands. I felt the cold metal materialize in my hand and smirked. My mind itself was like a weapons room, allowing me to store all of my weapons except for my sword so that they were always at my disposal.

I placed an arrow into the bow as I raised it, aiming directly for Eve. I let go and watched as the arrow whizzed straight into her right leg, causing her to fall forward cursing. I ran up to her and watched as she angrily pulled the arrow from out of her leg.

"What the fuck was that for?" She asked angrily.

I rolled my eyes. "You call me bipolar, you're the one that started it," She stood up as she slightly shook her leg and turned away.

"Whatever," She muttered.
