Beautiful sunrays peaked through the curtains on the window and fell on Lucy’s face. She buried her face in the gentle covers of her sheets to sleep a little more. Soon the gentle sound of her mother’s voice calling her downstairs for breakfast began to strike her eardrums as she muffled and curled further into the sheets. Then suddenly a horrid sound of her alarm clock banged through her ears and she woke up like dead rising from their graves.

She slightly yawned and put on her slippers and went to the bathroom. She stared at herself in the bathroom mirror for a while then began to brush her teeth and after getting ready she came out of bathroom and met an angry women yelling at her.

“How many times do I have to tell you to wake up early? It’s already this late. When are you going to eat your breakfast? You will be late on your first day of college”, said the middle aged woman.

“Its okay mom I will eat something from the convenience store on my way to college”, said Lucy with a gentle smile.

“No you won’t eat from the convenience store. You will eat the breakfast which I cooked for you. Who knows what you will get to eat at the dormitory? I want you to eat healthy homemade food as long as you are right before my eye.”

Lucy giggled. “Mom they are not going to give me garbage to eat there. There food will also be healthy”.

“You sure know what to say to your mom huh? If only you could talk with other with this much confidence”.

“It’s not like that I just don’t feel comfortable with other people whom I don’t know and you don’t have to worry about me mom. I’m sure that I will learn to communicate with other people much better when I will return home. College will at least teach me to get rid of my nervousness”. Lucy grabbed her mom from her shoulders and pushed her forwards towards the dining table saying “Let’s eat breakfast before it gets cold”

As they both went to the dining table Lucy’s father said, “You are finally here. The breakfast is cold now. You need to wake up early. At dormitory there won’t be your mother to wake you up”.

“I know that. Stop reminding me that I will be at the dormitory for next two years. It makes me sad”.

“I’m not reminding you Lucy that you will be gone for two years I just you to be careful out there and try to communicate with other people more often”

“Okay. I will try my best and don’t worry I will call you from time to time”, said Lucy reassuring her parents.

“Now hurry up with the breakfast. I’m waiting for you outside”, said Lucy’s father as he stood from the dining table and went outside.

Lucy ate breakfast and went outside where her father waiting for her in the car. As she sat in the car her father said, “Have you packed all the stuff you needed?”

“Yes I have. I packed it last night before going to bed.”

“Good.” Lucy’s father drove the car to the college. It was five hours long route from Lucy’s house. Lucy was tired from the long travel but when her father stopped the car in front of the College gate her eyes were wide open by seeing the huge gate. She got out of the car and was looking at the college with amazement. He father got off the car as well and took Lucy’s luggage out of the car too. He gave the luggage to Lucy and said:

“Here you go. This is as far as I can go. I hope that your time here will be marvelous and you will make a lot of friends”

Hearing these words Lucy’s eyes filled with tears and she leapt forward to hug her father. “Don’t worry. I will take good care of myself and will try to make at least one friend”.

“Don’t forget to call us. Your mother will be very happy if you call us”.

“I know. I will call you” saying this Lucy parted with her father and took the luggage. As she went inside she was met with huge buildings for different subjects. To her amazement all the buildings looked like castles from old times but they were in good shape because the college authority renovated them from time to time.

As Lucy was admiring the immense college buildings she was so immersed in them that she wasn’t looking forward and collided with two other girls and fell on the ground.

“Ahh…. I’m sorry. I-I didn’t saw you there”

“What do you mean you didn’t saw us? Are we that small for you to notice?” said one of the girls.

“N-no I didn’t mean that. I was looking at the buildings and I wasn’t looking forward…”, Lucy said in a low voice.

“What do you mean looking at the buildings? Have you never seen buildings? What are you? A country bumpkin?” mean girl taunted.

Lucy stayed quiet and kept her head low. “Oh my God! You really are a country bumpkin. How did you get admission here? Oh! Wait let me guess you got a scholarship. So you are not only a country bumpkin but also a nerd.” saying this mean girl laughed.

Even after all of this Lucy stayed quiet. By not getting a response from Lucy both of the mean girls got annoyed and went away. After they were gone Lucy got up from the floor and picked up her luggage. “I can’t believe myself. I told father and mother that I will try to talk with other people but here I am not even uttering a single word and they also bullied me”.

Saying this Lucy slapped herself with both of her hands and encouraged herself again to talk with other people and to not let other people bully her. After walking one hour she finally found her dormitory. The more Lucy was excited to see the whole college the more she was disappointed to see the dormitory. It looked like a haunted house from the outside.

“Well…. I didn’t expect this from the dormitory. I’m kind of remembering my mom’s words from this morning.”

Lucy was kind of depressed by seeing the dormitory. But when she went inside she was again filled with joy. “So, the building only looks like a haunted house from the outside. I wonder if it’s some kind of theme.”

Lucy went to the admin office of the dormitory and got herself a room. He room she got was 100 which was on the 2nd floor of the building. The building was divided in three floors i.e., Ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor. Each floor had two wings one north wing and the other south wing.

“Okay…. Hundred room huh? Couldn’t it be higher? I mean how I am supposed to get stuff on the 2nd floor. There is not even an elevator here. They stayed with the theme too much.” Lucy said to herself and agonized by looking at the long stairs.
