Prologue

Evan places his arm on the small of my back as we follow the waitress to our table. He asked me to meet him here tonight because he wanted to tell me something important, but he couldn't do it where we live as he doesn't want people to know what he has to tell me.

I hope it's nothing bad.

Evan isn't an ordinary person like you and I. He's an actor. Well, he's actually one of the most requested actors in Hollywood. He's been in a number of action movies and I'm pretty sure that you've seen at least seven of them.

Wherever Evan goes there's usually a photographer around the corner waiting for him to do something. So, they could be the first person to report it.

The thing is that the paparazzi don't know who I am and when they figure it out I'm sure they would dig around and find all sorts of things on me.

I just hope that doesn't happen.

At the table Evan pulls the chair out for me and I take a seat. He pushes the chair in for me before he sits opposite me.

The waitress waits for Evan to sit down before she asks. "Can I get you something to drink?"

"A bottle of your most expensive champaign."

I look at him. "What do you want to celebrate?"

A smile spreads across his face. "I got three more movie roles and I want to celebrate that with my Best Friend. Also, I have some other news that I want to share with her."

I grab the napkin that's on the table and I scrunch it up. Hesitantly I say. "Okay?"

It's making me nervous to know what he has to tell me.

"Will you be my Best Man?"

I know woman can't be Best Men.

Evan is the type of person that doesn't care about tradition and if he wants me to be part of the wedding party, then I'll do it for him.

I cover my mouth with my hand, in shock. "You're asking Bethany to marry you?"

I was hoping that he wouldn't do that. I don't like the girl.

He nods. "I got the ring tonight."

Why would he tell me that, he got the ring tonight. When he doesn't plan to ask her yet?

Looking at him I ask. "How are you going to propose to her?"

Evan is on one knee infront of me "I'm going to get down on knee, like this."

Oh, god. He's going actually going to show me how he's going to do it in a restaurant full of strangers.

He pulls the box out of his jacket pocket. "Then I'm going to say. 'You're the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes. From the first moment I met you I knew that my love for you would grow and I see us having a future together.' Then I will pour my heart out to her. Before I pull the ring out of the box. I will end it with. 'Will you Marry me?'

Evan continues with showing me what he plans to do with Bethany. "I will then slip the ring onto her finger and kiss her with so much passion that she's going to want to skip dinner and head up to the private suite that I had booked for us."

Aw, how cute.

My heart begins to race as I'm pulled out of my trance with Evan. I hear people applaud as they think that Evan proposed to me.

We're not engaged.

The manager of the restaurant walks over to us and says. "Since, you're newly engaged dinner is on the house, tonight."

"Oh, no," I shake my head. "We're..."

Evan cuts me off. "That's so kind of you. Thank you, so much." He places the ring on my finger and he kisses me.

I feel safe in arms and being close to him, brings back some feelings that I was hoping would die down with the amount of time we've been apart.

It fits perfectly. Why would he make the ring size to fit mine? Bethany's fingers are bigger than mine.

My mind keeps racing with thoughts of why Evan would bring me here and show me how he wanted to propose to his current girlfriend.

I look outside and see a group of photographers taking our photo. "Evan?" I hide behind him as the flashes from the cameras keep going.

I don't like people taking my photo. I'm normally the one behind the camera not in front of it.

Evan looks outside and his face pales. "Shit!" He runs his hands through his hair. "We have to play this out for awhile."

I shake my head. "No, I can't do that." My hands start to shake as I feel scared of what's going to happen and my heart begins to race as I look into the eyes of my best friend.

He places his hand on mine. "You have no choice. We will break up at my parents party in two months." Evan whispers in my ear. "You'll have to move in with me, until then."

I place the glass of champaign to my lips and I take a long drink of it.

How am I going to survive two months with my Best Friend and not actually fall for him?

He places his hand on mine. "You have no choice. We will break up at my parents party in two months." Evan whispers in my ear. "You'll have to move in with me, until then."

.

Evan and I are sitting in the kitchen eating breakfast when his phone rings. He looks at me. "I have to take this. It's my agent." He walks out of the room.

Evan is an actor and he's been in heaps of movies. He's mostly been in action films, but he told me recently that he auditioned for a romantic comedy that will be filmed here in Los Angeles.

At least he won't be too far from home.

My phone starts to vibrate on the table and I look at the caller ID. "Yasmin" pops up on the screen and I answer it.

Me: hey, Yas.

Yasmin: Are you coming in today?

Me: Yeah, why?

Yasmin: You're late!

I look at the clock in the kitchen and realise that I am indeed late.

Me: Sorry, I'll be there in twenty minutes.

Yasmin: Why twenty? You live just around the corner from the office.

Me: I'm not living there at the moment. I will tell you all about it when I get there.

Yasmin: You better be here before Xanthe shows up.

I don't want to be on Yasmin's sisters bad side. It's enough witnessing her outbursts, but being on the receiving end of them would be worse.

Me: How long until your twin shows up?

Yasmin: I don't know.

I hang up the phone.

Evan walks into the kitchen with a smile on his face. "I got the lead role in that romantic comedy I was telling you about."

"Congrats," I hug him. "I would take you out to celebrate right now, but I have to go to work. Do you have a car that I can use?"

He shakes his head. "I'll drive you to work. I want to spend as much time with you as I can before I go on set. Once I start filming we won't be seeing each other that much. I could be working when you get home or I could be sleeping when you leave for work." Evan takes my hand and we walk to the car. He opens the door for and I climb in. He rounds the car and climbs in.

I give him directions to the office and he follows them.

Evan pulls the car into the parking lot fifteen minutes later. He looks at the cars in the parking lot. "What are we doing here, Ariana?"

I step out of the car and make my way to the door. I scan my badge. "I work here, Evan."

He grabs my hand. "You work with the Butler Twins?"

"Yeah,"

He laughs. "Why didn't I know that you work for the best fashion designers around? Bethany spent hours telling me all about them and I didn't know that someone I'm close to works for the twins."

Yasmin walks around the corner. "You're here, Ariana. Great. We need to get you ready before the demon spawn walks in." She stops when she sees Evan. "Hello, gorgeous."

Evan laughs. "Hi, I'm..."

Yasmin cuts him off. "You're Evan Wilson the movie star. What are you doing here?"

"He's with me, Yas." I show her the engagement ring. "The rumours are true about me. That's why I didn't come to work last week I had things I needed to do with my fiancé."

She nudges my shoulder. "I gotcha." She winks at me.

"I hope everyone is ready to start the shoot. I don't have all day to waste in this office. It's a beautiful day outside and I want to be out there soaking up the sun." Xanthe walks around the corner. She's wearing a cream coloured fur coat and she has a designer pair of sunglasses on. She waves her hand in the air and demands a coffee.

People scatter away from her.

Xanthe stops in front of us. She places her sunglasses on her head. "Someone brought me a treat." She walks around Evan and he clears his throat.

"Xanthe," I say. She looks at me. "He's with me." I show her the ring on my finger.

She walks over to me and takes my hand in hers. She whistles. "That's a gorgeous ring. You've got good taste Mr Wilson. I wish I could say the same about the clothes you wear." She starts walking down the hall.

"Xanthe?"

"Yeah, how's the men's line coming?"

Xanthe turns towards me. "I have a few designs. All I need is a model." She licks her lips and looks at Evan.

A smile spreads across my face. "You can use Evan. I don't want him in my way while I do the photoshoot." Evan starts to walk past me. "If your not done in an hour I'm coming for you."

Evan kisses the top of my head. "Alright," he follows Xanthe to her office.

Yasmin and I make our way to the studio. When we get there I see the models dressed and waiting for me.

I pick up my camera and start taking photos of the male models.

Evan won't be happy when he sees this.

I move around the room taking photos of the men at different angles as well as telling them to pose different ways.

An hour passes and the shoot for the new Butler line is done.

Evan walks into the room wearing a suit. He looks totally gorgeous in it. "What do you think, Ari?"

"You look unbelievable." I point to the centre of the room. "Stand there and pose?"

Evan places his index finger on his face and he taps it and then he slowly gets comfortable with posing for the camera. He waves me over.

I give the camera to Yasmin and she starts taking photos of us. I place on hand on his shoulder and he grabs one of my legs and places it at his hip.

In another one he leans forward and places his lips close to mine, making it look like we're kissing.

Evan lifts me up and spins us around.

Xanthe walks towards us. "You two are cute together." She places her hand on Evan's arm. "When you two go to a movie premier I want the both of you to wear Butler Formal Wear."

Evan nods. "Could I give you a few suggestions with your suits?"

Xanthe looks at me. "Do you mind if I borrow him for a bit?"

"Go ahead. He's the type of guy to help you out."

Xanthe and Evan walk away.

Yasmin touches my arm. "Are you alright with them being in the same room?"

"I trust him."

She whispers. "Evan and you both need to work on convincing people that you two are in love. From where I'm standing I can tell it's fake. My sister on the other hand is easy to fool. If you want to talk I will be here for you." She walk out of the studio.

I start packing up the equipment.

Evan walks over to me half an hour later. He has lipstick on his lips and he looks at me. "It meant nothing."

Who is he trying to convince? Him or me.

I take his hand. "We need to act more convincing, Evan. There won't be anymore meeting my work colleagues and kissing them. You will have to be careful when your on the film set as well. I won't have my fiancé cheating on me." I walk away from him.

Yasmin gives me the thumbs up as I pass her.

At least I know that I'm heading in the right direction with this engagement, even though it's all fake.
