My name is Faith Lockwood, I was adopted by the healer of the North Coast Pack of New Castle and her human husband who found me abandoned in a basket at the side of the road near my mother's Healing Center. When they brought me home they already had a son Daniel who was five, I was only two months old.

My brother was my polar opposite, he was popular outgoing and the best friend of the future alpha which gave his ego an even bigger boost..... not that it needed it. He was also the biggest thorn in my side. My parents never hid anything from us so I knew they were not my biological parents and my "brother" never truly accepted me as his own and his jerk alpha buddy also kept reminding me that at 18 I was out.

What was worse was that even though I had my encounter with my wolf at 15 as do all werewolves, I have never shifted, never heard from her since and I have never been able to tap into any of my wolf power. No super healing, no speed, no strength and no growth. This made me a pariah in the community and I stuck out like a sore thumb.

My parents never treated me any different but they knew the rules and knew that if I was not able to summon my wolf by my 18th birthday I would be banished to the human side of the town and of my wolf did show up after I would be a rogue forced to live out my days without a mate, without a family and without a home.

My mother was mated to a human which was not unheard of but very scarce and very much frowned upon. She was granted acceptance because she was a direct decendant of the first healer and was the most versed and powerful healer in the land. If she were my biological mother I would stand a chance but I was not so her connection did not extend to me as far as the alpha was concerned.

She had tried everything in her power to sway him... but the ALL MIGHTY ALPHA ROWAN was bent on tradition. He did however grant my parents permission to visit me once I was banished. My mother had spent years researching was to wake a dormant wolf.... we tried so many rituals... nothing worked and my 18th birthday was in a week.

"Mom I think it's time we accept my fate, there's only one week left, I think it's over," I said as I slumped down on the dinning room chair next to my mom.

We sat at the dinner table waiting for Daniel to return home for dinner.

"In one week I'll be 18 and I will leave here forever, I don't want to spend that little time buried in books, research and ritual dead ends," I said holding my mother's hand.

"Good riddance," a gravely voice uttered.

"Daniel," my dad shouted.

"What dad.... I thought we don't lie in this family... so am I supposed to lie and say I'll miss having that embarrassment as my so called sister," Daniel said eyeing me with utter disdain.

"Easy now Daniel," another voice chimed in. Over his shoulder towered Damon. The future Alpha. "She can't help what she is... her parents must have known she was broken.... a pathetic excuse.. that's why they abandoned her."

"Broken..... You have the audacity to call me broken.... Wolves find their mate between the 1st and 3rd Moon Festival. This year will be your 5th and here you are no mate... You are supposed to be an Alpha... maybe the Luna Goddess does not deem you worthy of love or affection... and you call me broken!" I stood up demanding to be respected... I don't know where that came from, I was usually very passive...

"That's enough! All you sit down. Damon if you're staying for dinner you are most welcomed if not then leave." My father hit his hand on the table and exclaimed. For a human he commanded respect.

The rest of dinner was very quite. After dinner I helped my mom clean up. Damon left and I decided to go for a moon lit ride on my horse. As I approached the lake I heard a strange rustle. I jumped off my horse and cautiously walked toward the water edge hyper aware of my surroundings.

Suddenly I was struck off my feet landing hard on my back. I was in alot of pain but I rolled to my side trying to sit up. That's when I saw him... Damon's wolf.... growling with fury...

"What do want!" I shouted.

He shifted back and walked toward me... not seeming to care that he was stark naked... he knelt down looking me straight in the eye. " A parting gift... to remember the foolish mistake you made by disrespecting me."

He turned and left... I sat their in pain bleeding from a gash on my side. Too weak to move I just laid on the grass crying........
