I was sitting at my little desk in my small and dowdy apartment right on the Upper West Side of Manhattan when my best friend Maggie barged in through the door with a newspaper and cup of coffee in hand.

"Woah what's with all the excitement?" I laughed as I continued to scroll through the endless job opportunities online. Ooh, a position for a sidewalk sweeper, interesting.

I upturned my nose at an ad asking for a bald, 270-pound gogo dancer. So specific, jeez.

She threw her keys on the coffee table and smiled brightly at me. "Guess who got you an interview?"

My eyes widened "oh my God! With who?!"

She smiled nervously and sat down. "Ryan Saunders"

I smiled and blinked, having absolutely no clue who this Ryan character is. I looked at her and cocked my head, then proceeded to raise a brow and laugh.

Her jaw dropped as she cocked her head to mimic min "You have no idea who he is don't you?"

I stood up and walked into the kitchen "No?" I said in a questioning tone.

She laughed and followed me "well for one, he's filthy rich"

"UH who cares?" I rolled my eyes and pinned a job opportunity at a bakery.

She nodded as she grabbed a beer "Right right I can see your point miss 'I am not like the other girls' but he's hot as hell." she blinked and took a bite out of a danish and then offered it to me.

I laughed and pushed it away as I made myself a sandwich "Oh Jesus, you know he's definitely gay or something if he is THAT hot, THAT wealthy and THAT powerful and not married or something by now, I will pass, I don't like domineering"

Thanks for your support!

"Nope, last I heard was that he just recently broke up with his ex girlfriend. Broke her heart into a million pieces. She did this interview with Pop Magazine saying that he didn't care about anyone other than himself and he's a huge jerk. Typical huh?" She laughed and grabbed some leftover Chinese out of the fridge.

"Gee thanks for setting me up to work for such an amazing, thoughtful, and kind-hearted person. I really really appreciate it Mags. Thank you a billion times over" I rolled my eyes and laughed, knowing that there was no way in hell I'd be degraded every day of my life by some self-entitled douche bag.

"Hey Mads, a job is a job, and this job is within your range of ability, not baking at a lame ass bakery down the street" she said and tore down my job clipping and tossed it into the trash.

"Hey! You know I am not happy with how things are right now, I wasted so much time at school and now look at me" I said and frowned as I picked at the bread on my sandwich.

"that is my point, exactly. You know you cannot be living off a dollar a day, he pays super well and I can't be the only one paying rent" she pointed a finger at me.

I raised my hands in defense "you're right. Bergdorf and Goodman doesn't pay well enough. What if he doesn't hire me?" I started to feel anxiety about my minimum wage job and how I was falling back on rent, falling back on everything actually.

She smiled and hopped on the counter "or how about he falls in love with you the minute he lays his eyes on you and swoops you off and you guys run away into the sunset"

"Ha ha very funny"

She smiled and took a bite out of my sandwich. I narrowed my eyes at her "Yeah yeah I happen to be like that, let's not have you married to some megalomaniac and have you get a job first. I am going over to see Jack, which gives you plenty of time to write a resume"

I smirked "ooh Maggie and jack are gonna kiss!" I made kissy noises at her as she pushed my face away from her while her face turned as red as a tomato.

I laughed my way back to my computer as she grabbed her jacket and keys.

"See ya later Mads"

"Which means that you'll be coming in at 9 am tomorrow" I smiled.

She narrowed her eyes "shut up and start typing" I laughed and waved her goodbye as she shut the door.

I sighed and opened up a blank document.

"Madeline Slate" that's all that was written on there for a good 20 minutes. I would rather set myself on fire right now than write a resume for some job that I probably will never get. I have to thank Maggie for her business connections and getting me the interview in the first place.

If this guy is this much of a jerk I must have to impress him. A lightbulb went off in my crazy head and I started typing, hoping to win over this guy because I need the money BAD.

"HEY, mysteriously hot and young guy. I'm Maddie and I just graduated Columbia Summa Cum Laude which probably means nothing to you BUT please hire me because I am in debt up to my eyeballs so badly that I bump into objects when walking. No seriously, please hire me. I'm desperate"

I smiled at my intro paragraph and nodded. Yep, that should do it. I typed his name into the search engine and decided to do some refined research. By refined research, I mean stalking.

Thousands of pictures came up of a young guy with gray eyes and dark brown hair. His body was tall and slender with a slight 5 o'clock shadow.

He is not that hot.

A talent of mine? Lying to myself.
