Jamee's P.O.V

Today, Diane was going to bring me to her workplace and ask if there was an available spot for me. After a week of staying with her, I told her everything from the beginning until how she found me passed out in the dark alley behind a small diner. If it had not been her who found me, I probably had died without anyone finding me.

She told me that her employer was a bachelor and the son of some important people in Misilly and throughout the whole of Italy. I, who had no interest in the business world and someone who was just trying to survive living on the street, had no ideas about important people.

If someone said to me the person sitting next to me on the street was a minister, I would have believed them.

It was around dinnertime when the owner of the house, the bachelor of Misilly came home. Even though Diane told me to sit still and just wait, I helped her make dinner for her employer. I would have felt bad if I just sit like a princess all day long.

I couldn't hear anything after the front door was opened. So I thought he probably goes straight to his room.

I felt nervous now that he was home. Would he want me to work for him? Diane told me that he kept only a few people in his house. He didn't like being invaded and respected his privacy very much.

Heavy footsteps came toward the kitchen which was attached to the dining table. I turned to Diane and looked at her asking for help. I didn't know how to start a conversation, I was never one to be a conversation starter. She was definitely nervous. But, she smiled at me in a comforting way. That was the reason why I trust her with my life.

"Sir, welcome home." Diane bowed a little to him as a greeting out of respect and I followed suit.

"Your dinner is ready." She pointed out towards the table full of foods he would want to eat. He should have told her what he wanted to eat instead of her making all kinds of food for him that he wouldn't eat.

He stopped and greeted her back. And then, his eyes averted to me. His brown eyes seemed dull, more like they didn't have a life in there, but he was living. Would it be safe to call him a zombie?

He analyzed me from head to toe which make my feet squirm in uncomfortable. He then turned his head to Diane for a moment before he looked at me again.

"Who's this, Diane?" He asked Diane, but his eyes never left mine. We held our gaze without even blinking for a few seconds straight. He was looking at me like he was staring into my soul and it made my heart beat faster. His baritone yet airy voice made me flutter.

"Sir, this is my long-lost niece, Jamee Eilena. She has no one else, so she came to me and I brought her here. I hope you don't mind." Diane started to explain and he moved his gaze to her to wait for her to continue. "If I could ask for a favor, can she work here with me? You know my house is small and crowded. She only needs a roof above her head. She can do the cleaning."

"We have a cleaning lady come once a week." He replied to her straight away and I feel slightly disappointed. Of course, I didn't expect him to accept me right away but at least, he could consider it for a moment.

"Well, she can be here at night or whenever you need some help." Diane kept on coaxing him and I need to do something to help her since she helped me this much. It would be unfair if she did all the negotiations.

"I can do anything you ask me. Sir." I spoke and he threw me a gaze, but he looked tempted this time. His eyes twitched like something in him finally moved and that make me hopeful.

"She can move into the maid dorm since I left and it's been empty for too long. Someone needs to use it." Diane made an excuse. "I'll be her guardian, Sir. You can trust me."

"Well then, she can start tomorrow. Make sure you told her everything without missing a thing." He sighed, finally giving in to her pledge. I bit my lip to hide my smile, feeling thankful that not all rich people would be arrogant and step on the poor like I had experienced all this time.

"Of course, Sir. I'll be sure to tell her everything about the rules of the house. You don't have to worry about that. She will be good and take care of you with all her heart." Diane said out of happiness.

"She better." He glanced at me, looking at me for one last time. I gulped down, feeling weird that he suddenly felt so close after accepting my presence.

"We'll be excused now, Sir," Diane said and grabbed my hand so we could go and give him privacy to eat.

"Have you eaten?" His voice stopped us from leaving the kitchen. I turned my head to look at him to see who he was asking, me or Diane.

"I will be having dinner at my house, Sir. My daughter is waiting for me to come home. Jamee has not eaten anything because she was feeling too nervous to meet you." Diane pushed me forward like she was offering me to the Lord.

"Have a seat then." He pointed to the empty seat with his eyes.

"Go and impress him. I'll have to go," she whispered to my ear and then left me standing like a statue.

I gulped and started to walk to the seat he was pointing at. I was unsure whether to really sit in front of him or just brought the food and eat somewhere else, maybe in the corner.

"Sit down. I can not eat all this food alone, can I? Put anything you like on your plate. Don't want to waste any food now, do we?" Like he knew what I was thinking, he had to ask me the question. So, I nodded my head lightly. "Can you hand me the salad?"

"Of course, Sir." I quickly moved to get the bowl of salad and give it to him. He grabbed the bowl but our hands were touching, his hand was covering mine.

"My name is James. Just like yours plus an S." Maybe he was annoyed with the 'Sir' thing because he was still young from what I see.

"My name is double E, Sir." James gaped looking at me not expecting that response.

"Then it's J A M E S, Jamee." He purposely spelled the double E clearly and I nodded my head finding it funny. But I didn't dare to laugh, so I keep it in.
