Roseanne's POV

I sat in my chair against the wall by the window and kept twirling my straw in my Oreo flavoured milkshake as my "friends" chirped away with big smiles on their faces, obviously enjoying whatever conversation they were having while I was bored out of my mind. I would send an occasional smile and tried to make it seem as though I was listening to whatever they were saying. I glanced out of the window and watched as pedestrians strolled along the road heading towards their intended destinations. The longer I sat at the Cafe the more I regretted coming here.

"He told me that he loves me." Shirley, one of the girls who was sitting on the opposite side of me said making all the girls gush except for me, as far as I knew Ben and her had only been dating for a week and I had seen Ben swapping spit with another girl by the mall 3 days ago. I resisted the urge to scoff and took a sip of my milkshake, the only thing that made this whole get together worth it.

"Which reminds me," Renee, the girl that had invited me here and my best friend added. "Have you guys heard about that new dating app?" She asked, snapping me out of my bored state.

"Who hasn't?" Claire asked with a wave of her hand and placed it on her cheek in an attempt to show off her newly bright green coloured nails.

"My cousin entered it 2 days ago and it's already found her perfect match." Chloe chipped in.

"It's the top of the news everywhere and it's also apparently very accurate. For one, I know that a friend of my cousin got the app on the first day that it was released and she has been with the person that it matched her up with for over a week and a half now." Renee added.

"The are multiple people who haven't been matched yet though, I know about three people who have it, but still have no matches." Claire responded.

"Maybe both parties have to have the app before it matches you," Said Renee. "According to my cousin both her friend and the guy that the app matched her up with, had the app." She continued with a shrug as she took a sip of her own milkshake.

"I'm actually thinking of getting it guys." Chloe said with a look of determination.

"Same here," Claire said. "I'm 21 and still single, that's not right." She said with a frown of disapproval.

"I'm good, I have Ben." Shirley said with a big smile before she stood up to go and throw away her empty milkshake cup.

"I'm with you guys, I want to see how accurate the app really is, infact I downloaded it yesterday. I just need to fill in my details." Renee said wagging her phone around with a proud smile as the girls looked her with large eyes filled with surprise and I have to admit I was also as surprised as them. "Will you also be getting the app Roseanne?" Renee asked me causing all the other girl's eyes to turn in my direction. I watched as the other girls looked at me with eyes full of curiosity which I have to admit made me uncomfortable as I fidgeted a little on my chair, I really hated having all the attention on me.

"I'm not sure." I awkwardly answered.

The other girls just hummed but carried on with their conversation, the conversation escalating from just everyone wanting to installing the app to them talking about the type of guy that they wanted to be matched with deciding that I had had enough. I quickly typed out a message to Renee telling her that I was leaving. She checked her phone and then pouted but nodded nonetheless. I took that as my signal to stand up.

"Bye ladies, I have to go." I said and got quick byes from the girls before I made my way out of the Cafe and walked over to the bus station, which was about 1km away. When I got to the station I was fortunate enough to find a bus already there, so I quickly bought a ticket and made my way into the bus.

"Mom, I'm back." I announced as I stepped in through the door. "In the kitchen, Sweetheart." Mom called out.

I made my way to the kitchen and was immediately blasted by the smell of sugar cookies.

"Smells yummy in here." I said salivating in my mouth as I made my way to the counter and took a seat.

"I've already finished with the first batch." She said with a knowing smile as she pointed towards a cookie tin, that was situated behind her by the cabinets.

"Don't mind if I do." I said standing up and making my way to the tin and taking out a cookie. I took a bite and knew at that moment that one cookie wouldn't be enough so I took another and then I made my way back to my seat.

"So, how was your milkshake date?" My Mom asked the question an inevitable question as I took a bite of my cookie.

"It was pretty much the same as always, I guess." I said with a nonchalant shrug as I stuffed myself with the sugary goodness of my crunchy cookie.

"I sometimes worry about you, Sweetie. You're 20 with only one friend that I know of." Mom said looking at me with a frown before she took out the second batch of cookies.

"Don't worry, Mom, I'm okay," I said with complete honesty. "Renee is a great enough friend for me besides, her friends make me a bit uncomfortable for some reason." I said not feeling bothered about it though.

"If you say so, Sweetie." Mom said with a defeated sigh.

"Alright then, I'm going to go to call, Renee," I said standing up and kissing my mom's cheek. "But before that..." I trailed of moving around towards the cookie tin and taking a cookie, making my mom laugh as she gently shook her head. I then watched down the hallway and to my room.

I plopped myself on my bed and pulled my phone out of my jean pocket and dialled Renee's number.

"Why did you leave me?" Was the first thing that she said when she picked up.

"I'm sorry Riri, at least I sat for over 30 minutes." I said trying to get myself out of this situation.

"Ah ha," She said clearly not happy. "You ditched your best friend." She said trying to guilt trip me and honestly all it did was amuse me.

"I left you with your friends." I replied with amusement at my friend's antics.

"I guess so, but they also drive me crazy after some time." She said, stating something that I already knew.

"I'm sorry," I said sincerely apologetic, she was still my best friend after all. "For how long did you stay after I left?" I asked turning around and facing upwards towards my white painted ceiling.

"You're forgiven,"She answered with an exaggerated sigh. "I only stayed for about 7 minutes top." She continued. "You know I was being serious about signing up on the dating app." She said with complete seriousness.

"I know." I said knowing that she would probably still want me to join her.

"And my bestest of friend will also be getting the app, right?" She said with a pleading tone.

"I wasn't planning on it to be honest." I replied.

"You've got to be kidding me,"She said for some reason sounding to be in disbelief. "I can't do this without you."She dramatically said.

"No can do, I'm not in a rush for a relationship." I stated.

"You haven't been in a single relationship since I've known you." She said in her duh voice.

"It's not my fault that no guy saw me during high school and the last 2 years of University." I said in a matter of fact tone.

"Sure they did, you just never noticed," She said. "Anyway, I gotta go. My mom's calling me, apparently they are talking about the new app on TV." Renee said.

"Alright, I think that I'll go and do the same thing before I get this thing into my phone." I said preparing my ears for my friend's ecstatic squealed which I'm sure would happen soon.

"Yaaay," She squealed. "I love you, Rose. You are the best BFF ever." She said.

"Yeah yeah, I love you too. I'm gonna go so I don't miss out on anything, we'll talk later." I said and received an alright as well as a Bluetooth kiss before we hung up.

I stood up and made my way towards the sitting room where I found my Mom seated and already watching the news.
