This was the last time Damon Harrison will ever hurt her again. Her hands slowly went to the swollen eye underneath the dark-rim glasses. Lana’s flight was just about ready to depart this was the final step. She had lived in London, all her fondest memories were made there, her family, her brother. Her life in London had been full of everything, Love, Joy, hope, and grief... yes, grief... so, so much grief.

Kevin. it was hard to think of her brother without the weight of guilt crushing her, it had been two years since he died and 2 years since she lost the only person who could protect her.

Damon her now ex hadn't always been like that, so harsh, domineering, scary, and unfaithful. No, He had been sweet, kind, and thoughtful. There was a moment in her life when she thought that he was her happiness, her love, her forever. Now he was her nightmare, her jailor and her executioner. Hhe was what she feared most in her life.

He studied hard to be a doctor and then when he did he became a man of the people, helping the homeless, raising money for charity, and all-around swell block in her opinion. But that was before the shouting, the drinking, and the beatings, he changed and she feared him, she still did.

Lana had tried to leave more than once and more than once she had been dragged back by her hair kicking and screaming. there was a point in her life where she was scared that she wasn’t going to make it, that he’d kill her, and that appointment was last week when he had beaten her so badly that she found herself in the hospital for two months. Damon made sure that every part of her body ached.

If it wasn’t for Silvia her Editor helping her escape the hospital and hiding her away she would still be there, still listening to people telling her that she shouldn’t be that clumsy, falling down the stairs kills, you’re lucky. Of course, Damon would smile and pretend to be the loving Fiancé who has the best but troubled Fiancé in the world. People would tell him how good he was for sticking close to her since depression can kill a relationship. And he would say ‘I love her, that’s all that matters,” and they’d say how he might have cheated once or twice but he was remorseful

Silvia knew the truth and she also risked her life for her, finding her a place to staying another country, she’d never been to America but anywhere would be okay even the little town called Fairview.

Lana had to admit the first time she heard it she found it ridiculous but she was already a wanted person Damon had called her multiple times crying and begging, sometimes drunk enough to threaten her, telling her that if he ever found her he would kill her and he'd make sure that nobody knew it was him. Lana believed him, the man was a monster.

She never thought this would happen running away like a coward to a new country to escape her problems. Going to the police would be easier but damn her, she had to be too ambitious, she just had to have Damon, the nephew of a duke who would have thought, he’d be such a savage. But the signs were there, she just didn’t want to see them, she was being stupid.

“Miss Heart,” the flight attendant called her pulling on her shoulder to get her attention. She winced and pulled away that place hurt most from where she connected with the wall the last time. She looked up at the smiling face of the flight attendant.

“it's time to board.” The flight attendant said.

That's right she was going to be given special treatment, on this flight, first class as well as supervision, Silvia truly is a wonderful friend.

“Thank you,” Lana said softly as she followed the woman into the airplane her heart beating loudly. This was it she could never come home again, not until Damon had stopped his obsession and she could finally live a calm and quiet life this was the price she had to pay for trying to find love.

************************************************************

Fairview was a dull place. The first thing she noticed when she arrived is that the place was always wet. Of course, Sylvia had warned her but she didn't think it would be this type of weather, London weather, It made her miss home even more.

The little cabin near the lake and the woods were just… well…cozy. that was all he could think to describe it. It had everything that she needed and Olivia would be close by she’ll have to do a few renovations and purchase new things but it was livable.

Lana had met Olivia when she and Damon the have been on a getaway trip. Olivia had been the most cheerful redhead she had ever met, Olivia was also the kindest and the only one out of their friend group that didn't label her a liar or an abuser and blocked her out of their lives, and for that she was thankful.

Lana placed her hands in her jacket and pulled it close to her, wrapping herself with the little warmth she could get out of it, the pier was lovely this time of day. She had been here for just four weeks but she loved it. The pier was in the middle of an isolated area of the town’s borders overlooking Deadman’s Peak. She was scheduled to meet Olivia in the cafe she worked in called the Sleeping Willow an odd name but the town was odd in itself Lana had noticed. Apart from the bank which was five levels high, there was no skyscraper, no neatly packed apartment buildings, and abandoned warehouses. everybody was friendly the town seemed to not have a lot of people, Olivia had told her that the majority of them lived scattered around in the woods only a few locals love to live in what she called The business center

The only thing she loved about this place is the sea. She’d always loved the sea ever since she was a little girl. The seagulls floated around the grey sky, crying their sounds filled the air, the smell of the ocean breeze as it brushed through her hair, it felt almost surreal like she was trapped in some of the novels she wrote.

She placed her hand on the railing trying to peek down at the water. The pier was higher up than the ones she had visited before, this one scared her but she loved the thrill nonetheless.

And then Lana saw it. It was just in the corner of her eye, it felt like a trick of the eye but when she looked over again he was there, he was real.

The man had long golden locks, he was tall and was wearing washed-out jeans and a white shirt, he look like an angel except without wings he placed one foot over the rail and Lana’s heart stopped as she stared at what the man was doing. he couldn't be… maybe he was just a reckless daredevil who wanted to test his limits, but when he had placed the other foot over the railing she found herself walking towards him then he jumped and she screamed.

Lana never thought before she did something. Maybe that's why she often got into so much trouble. Maybe that's why she started taking off her coat and her red blouse and her shoes threw her phone down and jumped into the cold icy water.

“Where are you?” Lana screamed as she battled waves. They were growing faster, she couldn't see him. She turned around looking for something anything, he shouldn’t die.

She take a deep breath and plunged her head deep down below it is the dark sea. she couldn't quite see very well, then when she felt her lungs burning she’s come up for air only to scream out to the savage sea.

“Where are you please. please don't be dead!”.

Lana dove down once more and then she saw it, the white shirt, the beautiful man floating in the water. She tried to swim closer to him but the burning in her lungs came back again meaning she was out of time, she needed air once more. She went back up for air and went down again.

This time he wasn't there, Lana panicked she went up for air but the waves had grown larger and she was being swept under.Lana tried to take a deep breath but it crashed onto her sending her down again over and over again. Lana was panicking she was losing focus, she wouldn't survive

And in that moment of sheer desperation, Lana let go. Something that she wanted to do for a long time but never had the courage to do. Lana wanted to die in a way, she felt like she needed to, maybe then she did be at peace.

Lana’s eyes adjusted to the darkness and began to flutter closed.

Something began swimming towards her, something white, she couldn’t see clearly, her lungs slowly giving up and filling with water. The white silhouette slowly turned into something else something beastly with fangs and glowing red eyes. She gasped the water filling her lungs faster, the panic, the feel of fur on her hands as she held onto it, and then everything went dark.
