Isla Spencer stopped believing in home after her mother died. Living in a house where her father adored another daughter more, she learned to make herself small, quiet, forgettable—until the day fate gave her something of her own. Coel Reese, her mate, and a future she could finally belong to. She loved him. When a rogue attack left him in a coma, she gave everything to keep his bloodline alive, only to end up catching him cheating with her stepsister. And the child growing inside her? Not his. A clinic error had implanted her with the sperm of Logan Vale—the most powerful, most feared Alpha in the territory. One mistake. One contract marriage. One man who now owns her future. Logan Vale wanted his heir, while Isla wanted a chance to build her own life. When Cole and her family tried to destroy her again, she was no longer the old Isla Spencer. She is a Genius doctor with a formula that could change everything. And now, everyone who ever underestimated her will regret it. Including that untouchable Alpha.
Guilt ate Isla Spencer to no end. She placed her hand against her belly without even realising it. The call she received earlier made her blood run cold. The voice of the doctor echoed in her head.
“We are so sorry for the mistake in the IVF procedure, Miss Isla. The sperm was switched.”
How could she face her betrothed with this bad news.
Her betrothed Coel Reese, the Alpha of her pack, was lying in a comatose state and no one knew if he would make it. His family had urged her to make the ultimate sacrifice, carrying his child to preserve the Alpha bloodline.
“Something foul reeks in place!” Hilda's malicious voice echoed through the car.
Isla's eyes sharpened. This was the worst time for her step sister to bully her.
Hilda had always been the perfect child. Unbearably sweet, feminine and loved by everyone. She had always been a thorn in Isla's flesh.
Hilda made sure to sniff Isla out and held her breath dramatically. “You should take a bath. I wonder why I have to use the same car as you to get to the hospital.”
Isla's heart pounded hard against her chest. So many scenarios playing in her head.
Her stomach twisted and pain jolted in her belly. She traced the scar on her torso from the procedure she had.
She didn't want to give Hilda what she wanted, which was always a reaction. She learnt her lesson from before. She would always be blamed and punished.
Isla kept her gaze straight and Hilda shoved her hands in her face. “Look at my ring, isn't it beautiful?”
Isla didn't want to look, but something about it seemed familiar. She took a second glance at it.
“Feed your eyes, runt. This is the closest you can to get to something this exquisite.”
Isla quickly regained herself. The driver had taken a bend and they were getting closer to the hospital.
A guard sat in front with a stern face and bulky frame. She knew he was only there to protect her family's precious gem, Hilda.
She almost felt like the short trip shouldn't end.
“The man who gave you that ring must be loaded. It looks like real diamonds.” Isla didn't let Hilda's actions get to her.
Hilda scoffed and her shoulders puffed. Her blonde, curly hair danced in her face. She has the perfect face with cherry lips and a strong wolf.
“Yes, he definitely is. I don't know how you deal with being so insignificant. The man I'm with is an Alpha and even has a woman who thinks she is his betrothed, not knowing she's just being used for space.”
Hilda had a glint in her eyes, it was like she knew something that Isla didn't.
“Is he even your fated mate?”
Hilda gave a fake smile. “He isn't, but I want him and I must have him. You know, this ring is supposed to be for the woman who would be his wife. He wanted to give her formalities but I insisted that I wanted it.”
Isla took a second look at the ring. It looked just like the one that Coel had told her was a family heirloom that he would give her on their wedding night but it somehow disappeared and he always got hostile when she asked.
“That is cold, even for you.” Isla wondered why there was a dread in her heart.
Her earlier predicament was long forgotten. Why did everything seem so familiar?
“Such a pity though, she even gave him an organ.”
Isla's head whipped in her malicious sister's direction. They were very different in every way. No one would guess they were related.
The guard and driver behaved as if they couldn't hear anything.
“What did you say?” Isla's voice was low. She didn't want to believe what her heart was telling her.
She stared at the ring closely this time, and she saw it. The insignia belonging to the Reese family was on the ring, realisation set in.
Could she have been a fool all these while?
Was this why Hilda was always at the hospital?
“Why do you seem so pale, sister?” Hilda placed her dainty fingers against Isla's forehead as if she cared.
The taunting look on her face said otherwise.
“Get your hands off me this instant!” Isla gritted her teeth in annoyance. Her eyes flashed and her wolf, Serena pushed forward.
Fear rippled through Hilda for a moment and she did, but she quickly regained herself.
Just after the rogue attack, Coel was in need of a liver transplant. He wouldn't have survived without it.
She didn't think twice but had given hers to him so he could survive. Even when she was asked to give her womb for the IVF procedure since no one was sure he would survive, she did.
No one even cared that she was still healing from the liver transplant and her wolf was just an Omega, so she healed slowly.
She gave her everything, even when they said the pregnancy could cost her life. She still underwent it.
“How dare that cheating bastard!” Serena's voice echoed at the back of Isla’s head. Fury made her push forward and Isla's eyes flashed gold.
“What is wrong, sis? Don't you love my story?” Hilda taunted with a smirk.
Isla lost it.
Before Hilda blinked her head rammed hard against the car window, cracking the glass.
Hilda groaned in pain and shoved her off. “Are you insane?” She screeched.
