Olive

‘Heyyy! I wasn’t done with that’ I whined as Ria collected my cup of beer.

‘How many fingers am I holding up?’

‘Twenty-twoooo’ I giggled loudly, wondering why she was showing me twenty-two fingers.

‘Okay, that’s enough. We’re leaving. It looked like she was shaking her head, but it was all a blur.

‘Nooooo. If youu m…. make meee go, ummm I’ll cry weh, and sommmbodiee will stop youuu hmmm, and I’ll have funnnn…. weeeeee’ I giggled, satisfied with my threat.

Ria sighed and walked away from me to the bar. It looks like Ria is biting off the bartender’s ear. Why isn’t he screaming? That must be painful. She walks back to our spot and sits.

‘Why Ria? Why am I so unfortunate? Did I offend someone powerful in my past life? Maybe I pissed in a god’s wine. Whyyyyy?’ My chest hurt and I suddenly felt the need to cry.

‘It’s okay Vee. No one hates you, at least, no one important’ She tried to comfort me, but my emotions were short-lived as the waiter came back with another round of big shot glasses.

‘Weeeee!!! Moreee’ I ignored Ria and I immediately downed the contents of two glasses. Wait, this isn’t alcohol. Water.

I turned in time to see the waiter wink at Ria and walk away. By now, I was feeling sober.

‘You are such a trickster.’ I sneered at Ria while she laughed.

‘Come on, it’s time to go.’ A sudden gloominess came over me and I felt the urge to cry again.

‘You can spend the night at my place.’ Ria offered like the kind-hearted person that she is.

‘No, it’s okay’ She raised a brow at me.

‘I’ll be fine, I promise. Let’s get going.’

We took our belongings and wiggled our way through the swarm of bodies on the dance floor.

We were at the carpark waiting for our ride when suddenly, a large pool of dirty water splashed on us. To say I was shocked was an understatement.

‘What in the world!!!!’ Ria called out. I looked around angrily to see a shiny black BMW, a.k.a, the culprit pulling into a parking space. While Ria was trying to get herself together, I stalked over to the car to give the owner a piece of my mind.

‘Hey twat!’ I knocked with force on the hood of the car.

‘Are you physically or mentally blind that your eyes didn’t see that people were standing there and your brain didn’t tell you that you should drive by gently?'

The door opened and a guy in a well-tailored grey suit and sunshades stepped out. Who wears sunshades at night? Definitely a twat.

‘Oh, I see. You were so blinded by those shades that you couldn’t recognize two human beings in your front.’ I could feel Ria beside me, tugging gently at my arm.

‘Vee, he’s not worth it. Let’s go’ She tried to coerce me, but I wasn’t done with this guy yet.

‘You think you’re so high and mighty because you drive a shiny car, you’re not even a little bit remorseful.’ I was flailing my arms about while ranting, and this guy just stood there unmoving. He looked well above 6 feet compared to my 5’4 height, but he didn’t intimidate me in the slightest.

When he saw I wasn’t budging, he sighed and took off his shades, only for me to stare into the most beautiful pair of blue eyes I had ever seen. If electricity had a color, this would be it. I observe his features carefully, sharp jaw filled with a perfect auburn-coloured trim, and lush hair that would feel so good to run my fingers through it.

What am I doing? I’m angry. I brought my mind back to the current situation just to see him staring at me as well.

‘Helloooo!’ I snapped my fingers in his face and he came back to reality. ‘Apologize to my friend and I.’ I demanded with a huff. He looked back and forth between Ria and me and rolled his beautiful eyes.

‘I have had a long day, and I plan to have an even longer night, and I cannot have my day be made worse by annoying bees buzzing around me.’ The nerve of this guy.

‘Now if you would excuse me, I have some shots to down and some women to enjoy.’ It felt like my jaw slacked and my mouth couldn’t close anymore. Ria was surprised as well.

He put his shades in his pocket and moved to walk away but on instinct, I stuck my foot out to trip him, a successful move as I watched him tumble to the ground. Before he could react, I took out my emergency bottle of water from my bag and poured the contents of the bottle on his face. Serves him right.

‘Now you know how it feels. Hahaha’ I grabbed Ria’s hand and bolted out of the carpark. Luckily, our ride was waiting already so we hopped in and asked him to drive quickly. From the side mirror, I could see Mr angry pants running towards us with his damp hair in his face, but he couldn’t catch us.

‘Phew! That was a close one.’ I exclaimed at our close escape.

I turned to Ria just to see her already staring at me. Then we burst out laughing. I laughed so hard, that there were tears in the corner of my eyes. I caught a glimpse of the cab driver trying to hold in his laugh as well.

‘You my friend are one crazy fox.’ I giggled at her comment. The rest of the drive was silent as Ria typed away on her phone and I stared out the window, my thoughts wandering to my current dilemma.

I got off first.

‘You know you don’t have to face them if you don’t want to’ Ria said hesitantly, but the look on my face told her otherwise.

‘If you need anything, I mean anything at all, don’t hesitate to give me a call.’ I smiled at Ria’s words as I got down from the cab. She is such a good friend. I hope I am just as good to her.

‘It’s okay Ria.’ I smiled and waved to her one last time before the cab zoomed off.

I stared at my house, unable to enter. My emotions finally took over and I let tears flow freely. I sat on a bench nearby to calm myself and prepare to face my next problem.
