"Renee, your mother finally agreed to take you back home!"

"You'll go to the big city once you're better, live a good life, and fulfill your grandmother’s dying wish!"

In Startford City, Mirefield Village, an elderly woman dressed in plain clothes placed a bowl of soup medicine before the bed and spoke earnestly. The girl lying on the bed had porcelain white skin, delicate and exquisite features, but her slightly pale lips betrayed her frailty.

Hearing this, the girl took the soup bowl and offered the old woman a faint smile. "Thank you, Madam Olena, I understand."

"What a good child," said the elderly woman, her voice tinged with emotion, and her eyes red. "It’s a pity, why must your fate be so hard?"

Renee Jones sipped her medicine in silence.

When she fell ill and reopened her eyes, her mind was filled with an abundance of information.

She had died.

Then, she came back to life.

Reborn into this body.

This girl, too, was named Renee Jones, only eighteen, but cursed by fate. Raised in an orphanage and adopted, she thought she had found a home, but was abandoned time and again by her adoptive parents...

How naive.

Why rely on others?

Hope should be placed upon oneself.

After Madam Olena left, Renee lay in bed, still able to feel the uncontainable joy surging within her.

It was the original host’s joy.

The original host had dreamt of reuniting with her family even on her deathbed. Now that she had received the promise of her adoptive mother, how could she not be happy?

However...

Would her adoptive parents really kindly take her back?

Renee lowered her gaze, her expression somber.

The next day.

Around noon, there was finally a knock at the door. Madam Olena, gleeful, put down the vegetables she was preparing, wiped her hands on her apron, and hurried towards the door.

As she walked, she laughed, "Renee, it must be your mother! She’s here to take you back!"

Shortly, the door swung open.

A well-dressed middle-aged woman stood outside.

It wasn't Carol Kennedy who had come, but the Jones family's female housekeeper.

Renee leaned against the kitchen doorframe. Her posture was languid and her amorous eyes were slightly lifted as she looked at the woman outside.

"Madam, Mrs. Carol has instructed me to bring Miss Renee home."

The housekeeper, Cassandra Arnold, spoke politely, but disdain and arrogance were poorly concealed in her eyes.

Madam Olena paused for a moment, then warmly said, "You’ve had a tough journey, Cassandra! Come in, have a seat! Have lunch before you leave. You must be hungry after such a long drive!"

"There’s no need." Disgust shone in Cassandra's eyes. The food here was worse than pigswill; how could she eat it?

She turned to Renee inside the house and said, "Miss Renee, Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Carol are waiting for you at home. Let’s leave right away."

Madam Olena, helpless, quickly packed some food for Renee.

Renee’s belongings were simple—a backpack and a small kitten. The kitten, rescued by the original host over a month ago, was critically ill at the time and saved by spending all her savings at a pet hospital.

Renee didn’t particularly like pets, but since it was saved by the original host, she kept it.

Seeing her take the cat along, disdain barely concealed in Cassandra's eyes.

"Miss Renee, Mrs. Carol dislikes such stray cats of unknown origin."

A double entendre.

Cats of unknown origin are despised, as are people of unknown origin.

Holding the cat, Renee lifted her gaze indifferently, "Where I am, it is."

Cassandra's eyebrows furrowed, her dissatisfaction with this country girl growing. Renee should be grateful that the Jones family was willing to take her back; yet, she even wanted to bring a dirty cat!

Such insolence!

"If you insist on bringing it, Miss Renee, I may need to ask Mrs. Carol for further instructions," Cassandra threatened.

Renee tilted her chin up slightly, "Go ahead."

Long accustomed to high standing, Renee exuded the aura of a superior, causing Cassandra to frown.

Did this village girl truly see herself as a Jones family young lady? Not only was she impudent, but she also dared to give orders?

Wait till they returned to the Jones family; she would get what she deserved!

With a stern face, Cassandra walked away to call Carol.

"Renee..." Madam Olena expressed her worry.

"It's alright, Madam Olena." Renee's lips curled into a faint smile, her eyes glistening as she looked in Cassandra’s direction, "She will agree."

If she didn’t agree, Renee could simply turn around and leave, disregarding this woman who looked down upon a country girl like her.

If she agreed…

The Jones family’s intentions were not small, after all.

In a short moment, Cassandra returned, her face dark. "Mrs. Carol is kind-hearted enough to let you bring the stray cat home. Miss Renee, you'd better keep an eye on it. The city is not like your countryside."

Renee didn’t respond, her gaze lowered as she gently stroked the soft fur on the cat’s back.

Her skin was as smooth as cream, and her exquisite features were accentuated by the long lashes casting a small shadow on her eyelids.

Cassandra was slightly stunned. The vibrant and bold appearance was a stark contrast to the timid and inferior village girl from before.

However...

What use was a pretty face?

A wild ugly duckling would never turn into a white swan. Renee couldn’t even compare to one ten-thousandth of Eva Jones.

Cassandra sneered, her disdain growing.

Before leaving, many neighbors came to see her off, each offering earnest advice and hopes for her better future.

Madam Olena, with teary eyes, urged Renee to listen to her parents and be tolerant in all matters.

Renee nodded and gently hugged Madam Olena's shoulders.

Then, she walked out of the courtyard.

Standing outside, looking at the place where the original host had lived, a faint sense of loss arose in her heart.

It was the original host's reluctance to leave; Renee was willing to give her this last moment of remembrance.

In the sunlight, the girl’s burgundy dress fluttered in the wind, brilliant and ethereal. Her slender waist was gripped, and her whole being was enchantingly beautiful.

A moment later, she turned and sat in the car. The car door closed, concealing her charming figure.

The car drove away from the country road.

At the street corner, two young men had witnessed the whole scene.

"A-Antonio, did you see that?" Neal Baker couldn't recover for a long time, staring in the direction where the car disappeared. He murmured, "A fairy, I saw a living fairy..."

Beside him, a tall and handsome man slightly narrowed his eyes, his deep gaze revealing no emotion.

“Really?” He lightly opened his thin lips. He put on his sunglasses and said with a cold and deep tone, "You're seeing things."

With that, he turned and walked away.

"Seeing things? Am I?" Neal rubbed his eyes in doubt, watching the dust roll away and then looking at the man's retreating figure. "Antonio, are you teasing me again?"

He caught up, and Antonio ahead didn’t stop, but a faint smile indeed curved his lips.

A fairy, huh?

Well.

This field trip was somewhat worthwhile after all.
