The Murderer 001

Richee Jay

The Beginning - Episode One

Slowly, our hero was lowered into the grave. The only sound that occupied my head was the constant wailing of my mother and the silent cries of my big sister.

Without being told, little me knew I wouldn't see dad anymore. I spent my entire 11 years of existence in his arms. In his company.

He had promised he would be there with us till the very end. He swore he wouldn't go anywhere. I smiled out tears when I remembered how he died.

*Flashback*

My parents were always quarreling regularly. It became a norm. But they had the courtesy of always keeping it away from us.

That evening, they were fighting because mum got a job outside the state, and she demanded we relocate.

Having the habit of eavesdropping on all their arguments, this one wasn't an exception.

I placed my tiny ears on the door. Careful not to make a sound.

I heard dad disagree with mum. I guess he was fed up already. Having relocated five times, he wasn't ready to go through with this one.

Their argument got intense, but I didn't want to go in. I stayed put until I heard the sound of a broken bottle.

I opened the door slowly, only to find dad on the floor, in the pool of his own blood, with mum holding a broken bottle dripping with blood.

My gaze went from mum to dad. Trying to gulp down the saliva that gathered in my mouth.

*End of Flashback*

Remembering how mum warned I and my sister not to speak of what we saw to anyone, I quickly cleaned my tears.

She bought dad's relatives with the lie that; we were attacked by thieves, and dad died trying to fight them.

We knew our lives wouldn't remain the same anymore. But we had to adapt.

Two days after dad was laid to rest, we relocated. I guess mum was pleased and fulfilled that she wasn't suspected.

She quickly enrolled us into a new school that was better that our former, but it didn't entice us. The anxiety wasn't there. Being that, this was our fifth school in three years.

Barely two months after dad's death and our relocation, mum brought home a man In his 40's. Introducing him as our stepfather, after dropping a wedding invitation card in our midst.

Looking at my sister, we had the same question written on our faces.

Was mum cheating on dad???
