This is the story of one of the best legends ever heard. Many of the legends were forged by the situation in which they lived. A long time ago, more than a century ago in the United States and northern Mexico, in the well-known places of the Far West, The Frontier, Wild West or Old West. Years after the independence of the United States during the 19th century when you could still hear the Spirit of the West roaming all over the lands, there were some lands before they were cities that we know today, there were many people but distant from each other. Many of these towns had fertile soils, when a great drought hit the towns, destroying them one by one and wiping out the water sources and rivers that crossed the road and fed the land for planting and harvesting. Darkness could be witnessed, dark years were to come.

Many fled, abandoned what was left of them. Their property and territories were worth neither more nor less than a penny. But few remained, with faith and hope to one day see and expect to see their soils flourish again and enjoy abundant water in an illusion of paradise. Many of these villagers would see future rulers emerge from obscurity to dominate the known world in these territories.

Others did not hesitate and fled north or south. One last town, which at that time in fear of being attacked for its abundant rivers and crystal clear water sources, built a fortress to defend itself, their Fortress became admirable and seeing its glory and boasting for themselves, they thought to have power over their neighbors, their Jamestown Fortress, as it was called in those days, was the news of the moment. In their infamous decision and ambitions to contain river sources, some of which crossed into other towns, they decided to block them with dams to prevent water from flowing out. Taking advantage of the situation of other towns, the common weakness was Water. Stopping the fertilization of the soils and consequently, they contributed to the drought worsening the situation. A group of German merchants traded water and food from the Fortress to the other towns at very high prices.

Soon groups of bandits emerged desperate for the economic and inhumanitarian situation of the other towns outside of Jamestown. When one of the bandit groups would leave a town or get tired of it, they would move on to another town but days later they would return to be ruled by other bandits. It was a circle where they were attacked and robbed again, until one day the dreaded outsider Lady Ycan, or as she called herself the Dark Lady, arrived. She began by raiding the merchants and ended up reinforcing her power by conquering the Jamestown Fortress. The people of Jamestown never believed they would face Ycan or that they would ever have the strength to attack them.

Until the night of their fall came as quickly as water dissipates in the hands. That night, with his nature howling at the moon, Ycan and his men scaled the wall; its unprepared inhabitants were the sufferers. As the thief enters in the night without hour and without day, without warning he enters. No one could believe it, it was very unlikely to happen, one in a million, but as long as there is a sliver of a chance, it is still a risk.

“Mr. Mayor McFord, Lady Ycan and her men are scaling the wall, we must defend ourselves as soon as possible” Said one of his men in command of the 1st JamesTown Regiment

In honor of John White's JamesTown Fortress

.

”Gather everyone, surrender your weapons to the people, we have to defend the fortress” Ordered the mayor as he bent down on the ground and lifted a box with two shotguns, took one and placed it on his back and reloaded the other.

”Yes sir” He replied as the soldier left.

The mayor left the town hall at a brisk pace to find himself at the crossroads of gunfire that formed.

”Launch the barricades!” Ordered the captain of the soldier regiment.

”Fire!” Ordered the mayor as they began firing on Lady Ycan's units. The reloading of each cartridge used by each soldier could be heard. As he emerged from the darkness to a person with a gun in his hand without fear, the person advanced between the gunfire without knowing which side he was from. The fog thickened every second of the enemy victory, the mayor heard his men die at the same time the detonation of the bullet was heard. Soon everything was silent and whispered.

”Are you all right?” Said the mayor as he held the gun shakily. His breathing became more tired, his hands more shaky, when he felt the coldness of the tip of the gun against his head, with which someone was aiming.

”Do you remember me, Franz?” Said the dark lady

taking off her black hat letting the wind blow her hair.

”Get it over with, at once... let me die, just shoot, you're going to kill me anyway so shoot” Replied the mayor.

”I'm sorry, but I'm not taking orders from anyone, my mayor” Ycan said as he lifted the mayor off the ground and carried him to the mayoral jail until dawn.

With tens of hundreds of men down trying to defend something that fell futilely. Many longed to be able to have the freedom that they themselves ended, for having let the river flow in other towns and transporting water so that others could face the drought, and perhaps end the drought. Ycan would never have needed desperate men to form his infernal team.

Ycan celebrated through the night and during the day gathered all the people on their knees, while his men stormed the town and confiscated weapons.

The night passed so fast, that even time did not feel it. In the distance you could feel the hostile atmosphere that everyone was going through. Tears were heard, the feeling is more alive than other times.

”Today, I the Dark Lady, have taken the Fortress on behalf of the mayor, today he proclaimed me, as the highest and only ruler of James Town, whoever is not in favor of the rules that will now rule the town will die in his attempt of disobedience” Lady Ycan said while holding the mayor's brown hair and said happily ”Would you like to see how I execute the rebels?”.

”You have caused too much damage, give me the damage my people should receive” Said the mayor.

”I'm sorry, Mayor, but as I told you I don't take orders, now I wonder what I will do with your family” Ycan exclaimed showing a smile.

”No, please don't kill them, they have nothing to do with this matter, leave them out of this fight” Pleaded the already wounded mayor.

”I will not kill them, they will be slaves in other states, they will chop iron or work in the fields, and your only grandson may die if my men find him, but let us enjoy the execution first, do not let us be tormented by what you have done and its consequences”.

”Luckily don't be tormented by what you won't see” She threatened with her power, cold as always.

Several rebels from the front line of the mayor's army knelt before her eyes. Men of war, still strong, but forced to surrender.

”We swear to die, for freedom and we will die defending it as much as it costs us” Exclaimed the soldiers in a voice.

One of them, a Lombard Italian, softly intoned a song, sad and empty of joy, his comrades listening to it accompanied him in his song. Soon the execution became happy, as lively as if it were a party.

”Fire” Said Ycan in a tone tired of listening to them.

All the men fell, that very dawn. A silence filled the void.

”Why are you doing this” Said the mayor pleading.

”Power... Power... power and glory, that's what I fight for” Ycan said patting him on the ear, as he stood up and turned to mount his horse. Before mounting, he raised his hand to the sky and lowered it giving the order to shoot the old mayor.

”In the name of the new government of Jamestown, I execute the leader of the resistance, Mayor McFord” Said one of Ycan's men with his face covered.

They say the sound of the bullet was heard beyond the prairies, and like thunder in the foothills of the volcano like an alarm. Everyone who knew the situation already knew what they all had to face.

Several governors from northern Mexico and the southern United States sent support to the current governor who had been placed as a puppet governor, from time to time Ycan chose the best of his forces to run the mayor's office for a limited time. Those governors, like the governor of Pennsylvania or the governor of Michigan, believed that this governor had been elected by the will of the people. Even many of their contacts remained in the U.S. Congress, diverting attention from what was going on. But they never discovered that this shady woman was the one who ruled the city. She dominated everything... but there is always hope, even if it takes many years.

And even if it took years for the freedom that was there to be seen again. A legend was beginning to be forged over time.
