There was an island Kingdom called Nareth. It might have been small but it was rich with resources. The people of Nareth were peaceful and prosperous. The island was full of humans, but they were all different in their own ways. The people of each region tended to have their own distinct look and culture.

The people on the coasts loved their oceans. They sailed, swam an fished. They normally had red hair and blue or green eyes. The red hair could vary in shades from auburn to copper and their eyes looked the ocean they loved so much. It was rumored that they came from mermaids, but that had never been confirmed. Or denied.

The center of the island was full of trees. The people who lived there didn’t see the sun too often so they were pale. The pale skin was often called striking. Especially against their dark hair and their dark eyes. Some of them were rumored to be witches who created potions. The potions could heal the sick and the injured, but they could also harm others. And they could, but it was just herbs. The people of the trees, as they called themselves, loved to learn it was believed that they had vast libraries hidden in their thick forests.

The people who lived in the southern point of of the island were warriors. They valued strength and courage. There was a time when that was all that they cared about, but after generations of interacting with the rest of the population they started to appreciate more things. But nothing would ever replace swords as far as they were concerned. Most of them had black hair and bright, b ut serious blue eyes.

The northern part of the island considered themselves the cultural center of Nareth. They loved art and music. They resented any type of conflict because they felt like it interfered with their creativity. They took in anyone who came to them and as a result their looks were as diverse as their art. Some were even willing to turn themselves into artwork, even going so far as to color their hair with bright dyes.

All of the different regions were ruled by their own King. That King handled everything in his own region. Then there was an emperor that ruled over them all. The imperial family was very different, and that was one of the reasons they stayed in power.

No one knew where the imperial family came from, but they were only the bloodline that knew how to use magic. No matter who married into the family, any children that resulted looked like them. It was always easy to tell who was related to the emperor line. They all had pale gold hair and deep brown eyes. But they also had was an air of regality that surrounded them. It was the kind of thing you couldn’t learn, you just had to be born with it.

The Emperors always knew that with the cooperation of the Kings it would be difficult for them to rule anything. The imperial family enjoyed a very close relationship with all the Kings. However, they tended to be especially close to The King of the Coasts. As the rulers of an island, they knew it was a good idea to be close to the man that controlled most of the navy.

The two families were always close. Whenever they both had sons around the same age they tended to grow up more like brothers then friends. The relationship between the two of them kept the whole country safe.

The families had always been tied together, but sometimes it wasn’t in a way they wanted or needed.
