THREE YEARS LATER

David’s P.O.V.

“Life is like a dark fairytale. Happy endings do not exist. I’m sorry, Madison, but there’s no such thing as us and never will be. You know what? I never remembered even once that I’ve dated you, okay? So, can’t you please stop chasing after me? Honestly, it’s quite irritating.” Those were the words I said nonchalantly to the red-haired woman who was now crying in front of me.

Well, this is the new David Cristoff—cold, jerk, and outrageous! My emotional scars had drowned me through the years, making me this callous.

A hard slap was heard when the woman’s right hand instantly made contact with my left cheek, but with the hardness of my face, plus the sturdy clenching of my jaws, it was just like a breeze of air swiftly touched my skin. I was only controlling myself here, but a mocking laugh was ready to escape my lips.

Sure thing—it was loud enough to be heard by other students here—but time was great on doing its perfect job by making me feel numb about it. Time played a huge role in why my heart and mind didn’t feel any concern about it. Her slap didn’t even turn my face in the other direction. Poor girl!

“Fuck you, Dave! My name isn’t Madison, okay? It’s Sharon! Damn you, do you really have the nerve to say that? I couldn’t imagine how thick your face was! After you kissed me at the bar, you’ve forgotten about me now? So, what does it do for you? Are you happy to see how someone was hurt all because of you?” Madison—oh, I mean—Sharon wiped her tears affront. She paused for a while before she continued.

“Why? Who is your new flavor of the month? That Madison, huh? Well, if you expect me to chase after you, you’re fucking wrong. No, Dave! You’re nothing to me. I’m breaking up with you, and I’ll appreciate it more if you will not show your face in front of me ever again! We’re done, okay? We’re done here!” she screamed before saving a little bit of her pride and leaving me in front of the College of Engineering building.

But what happened didn’t even embarrass me as I retained my posture and even lifted my chin. I also handsomely put my shades on my head and enjoyed the sun’s rays on my face.

Woah! And she really tried to scare me, huh? Impressive!

But crap, I didn’t even care about her! She could scream all she wanted, and no one would even bat an eye here. Bitch!

I sneered before letting out a soft chuckle. Madison or Sharon—whatever her name was, I didn’t care at all, and it was the truth. One should not give someone their all because heartbreaks are common, and the pain was inevitable.

Life is like a dark fairytale. Happy endings do not exist.

How many times did I say my favorite dialogue to most, if not, all women here? I wasn’t sure. Was that Sharon, my twentieth fling? Or thirtieth? I couldn’t remember, and I didn’t even feel a sting of guilt for them. I lost count already. Women were all the same, but it doesn’t include my sisters. Well, they were the exceptions.

And for the record, I didn’t have a new flavor of the month, but I could easily replace her and have a brand-new flavor of the week instead. There were times that I had eight of them in a month—all at the same time! I didn’t even know what her trip was, to say that I kissed her when I didn’t even do that. I couldn’t even remember that I went to the bar. During the summer vacation, I only stayed in the house.

Well, one fact about me is that—I don’t kiss. Kissing someone in the past was already enough for me.

That crazy woman might be suffering from one hell of hallucination because she couldn’t accept the fact that I just dumped her. No matter how pretty she was, I wouldn’t stay with her. There were lots of fish in the sea, so I had lots of options. No woman could ever trap the brilliant David Cristoff.

Many students were able to watch the short clip of our movie scene earlier, but they only laughed at what had happened. I was already known here on the campus as The Ultrasmart Playboy, so there was nothing new about it! Some students would even ask what was the problem if they could not witness a break-up scene that involved the famous, genius, and handsome David.

Most of the time, the majority of the women here were even begging to be included in the top list of my alleged girlfriends. As for the others, I would be surprised to know that they were already my ex-girlfriends when I only saw and got acquainted with them for the first time. Like hell, how did that happen? I never even lost a memory.

I just laughed while lopsidedly shaking my head. I wasn’t able to count them as girlfriends because it was just a rumor. I had lots of flings here at Coach University and even from the adjacent prestigious university, but I never kissed any of them. I never treated them seriously and only took them for granted.

Those were only sweet nothings. There were no sexual relationships involved when it comes to my flings! I could change my girl as often as I changed my clothes. I wasn’t rich, and I was too far to be one, so I never promised them anything.

They were free to do whatever they wanted and could engage themselves in hooking up with someone else, but I only got suffocated the moment they liked to stay with me longer than a week. If that happens, I instantly cut ties with them. I never lost my memory even once, but I suddenly became an amnesiac in dealing with them.

But what other people didn’t know about me was the fact that, before I became The Ultrasmart Playboy, I was once a Good Young Man—someone who would always care about other people, someone who truly knew how to love. A good man went bad all because of a woman.

And I would never be that same naïve and pathetic David Cristoff Rivera!

“Woah, it looks like Sharon just suffered from high blood pressure here! What did you do to her, bro?” A familiar voice asked me, cutting all my reveries.

It was Richard. He had been my best friend since I studied here at Coach University. This friend of mine was enormously well-off, but he was also a smart-ass while still keeping his feet on the ground. He was fun to be with and a cheerful one. There was no question that he was humble, but oftentimes, he was someone I would love to throw in a well of water!

Like me, he didn’t have a best friend way back in high school because he was also mistaken as a nerd. The two of us quickly got along when we got paired way back in our freshman year’s first project. I could say that we had everything in common, most especially when it came to women.

It was indeed hard to be handsome and campus heartthrobs these days! Well, it was not our fault that women were always chasing after us, may it be on or off the campus.

“Hey, Chad! You’re back, man! How’s your vacation? I’m sure you’ve got lots of girls there. Care to give me some?” I fist-bumped with him. As far as I knew, he just came from South Korea with his beloved mother after spending a month there.

Then I continued. “Wow! You knew her better, huh? Well, I called her Madison because I couldn’t even remember her name, bro! She cursed me afterwards.” I richly laughed. “I bet you already saw it, so I don’t have to explain myself here. She slapped me, but she could have done it better! I’m not sure. Well, Madison and her really look alike. Hmm, anyway… she’s not a loss for me, so just let her be. It would be better for her to get hurt than hope for nothing.”

“I beg to disagree. I didn’t know her better. I knew you better! Here, take this. But none of them are yours—it’s obviously for your sisters, Diane and Denise. Well, to tell you… I’ve never been on a real vacation, bro. Holy mother of shit, the Korean girls were already chasing after me as soon as we landed in the airport!” Chad couldn’t stop laughing when he handed me a loot bag full of authentic Korean ramen noodles and chocolates. He was quite exaggerating.

“But let’s change the topic here, Dave. Enough of me. When are you going to take them seriously? I mean—those women around you. It has been three years, bro! Don’t tell me that you haven’t yet moved on from Helena? Don’t you think it’s about time to forget her? Damn, is she really that beautiful?” Chad asked me with puckered eyebrows before putting his arm on my shoulder. “Then, I would love to see her up close!”
