The dim yellow light cast a ghastly pallor on the woman sitting on the sofa. Her eyes lacked any spark of life, only filled with despair and bewilderment.

Moments later, her vacant gaze returned to the coffee table.

A document was laid on the table, a document that had already been signed.

The confusion and despair in her eyes gradually smeared over with a sense of grievance. Her nose tingling, tears began to fall uncontrollably. Her hands tremblingly lifted the document. Moments later, she burst into uncontrollable sobs.

Lin Yan couldn't understand how things had turned out this way.

Last night, he had still eaten the dinner she'd prepared for him. When she had modestly stated her cooking was subpar, he had laughed it off, assuring her it was more than good enough.

Yet, remarkably, in just one day, she had returned home from work to find her newlywed husband missing, leaving behind an apologetic letter and a divorce agreement signed with his name.

After crying all night and losing her voice, she got dressed in a daze and went to work at the hospital the next day.

As an intern, she had rotated through all departments and was assigned to the emergency room when she completed her rotations.

All morning, she'd drifted through her work as if she were a spirit, handing you a glove when asked for a mask. Luckily, the emergency department wasn't busy today; otherwise, her condition would have surely led to problems.

During lunchtime, a colleague approached Lin Yan and said, "Doctor Lin, Director Wang wants to see you in his office after lunch."

"Hmm? Okay, I got it," she responded quietly, not noticing malicious intent in the colleague's eyes.

She had no appetite, so she placed her utensils in the designated location and headed toward Director Wang's office.

"Knock, knock, knock."

"Come in."

"Director, you wanted to see me?"

Wang Dajun chuckled, with a rather gentle demeanor, "Sit, let's talk. Don't be so nervous."

Lin Yan frowned slightly as she sat down. She was somewhat watchful towards Wang Dajun's overly enthusiastic manner.

The wariness made her voice cautious as she ventured, "Director Wang, what is the reason for calling me here?"

"Little Lin, you don't need to be so formal with me. I'm your superior; it's only natural for me to care about my subordinates. Tell me, you've seemed absent-minded all morning. Is there any trouble at home?"

Lin Yan shook her head, "I apologize, Director, I was daydreaming this morning. But I'm fine."

However, Wang Dajun ceased laughing and reached out to grasp Lin Yan's delicate hand resting on the desk. "Little Lin, you haven't become a regular employee yet, have you? Your behavior this morning, how am I supposed to give you a positive evaluation? You should start learning from your colleagues or seniors. In this place, it's more steadfast and reliable to have a strong person to rely on than to depend on yourself."

Lin Yan, not even twenty-four, was at the tender age of youth.

Just stepped out of the campus, she carried an innocence that instantly charmed people, coupled with her attractive face. Especially those kitten eyes of hers, as if they would hook your soul right out of you.
