Chapter [1] - Pads or Tampons?

I was here in my room, enjoying the rain pouring so hard in my roof. As I was at it, I was polishing my nails and painting them in a bright turquoise color. I stretched out my hand to examine it and smiled victoriously to myself. I also added black to make me look like a chic.

I shifted my gaze to my dark window. It was still 5:30 in the evening and the reason it was so dark outside was because of the stratus clouds forming. I guess it will turn out to be a cumulonimbus cloud because it looks like Port Angeles is about to have a thunderstorm.

Again.

And yes, I live an hour away from Forks. You know, that one where Twilight was being filmed. I'm not saying anything crappy about Twilight, but I am saying that this place is hella giving you the nicest view in Washington, I might say.

I was being snapped away from my thoughts when I heard Adrian humming a Taylor Swift song from the bathroom. I can hear him from here because the bathroom was just next to my room.

"Cuz baby now we got bad blood." I heard him sing in a high-pitched voice. I chuckled as I let my fingernails dry.

I didn't mind if my brother could take a shower for half a day. I actually didn't mind until I felt very uncomfortable erm, down there. I stood up and lazily walked to the bathroom and banged my fist in it. "Are you gonna take awhile?"

"Maybe," Adrian responded.

I walked back to my room and shut the door behind me. And then I checked what the hell was going on under there.

Holy fuck.

I quickly went to my drawers and closets to find my pads and it was no use.

I ran out of pads.

And I think my period is gonna be heavy.

I opened the door to my room and banged on the bathroom door again. "Hey Adrian."

"What now."

"Can you check if there are still pads in there?" I sheepishly asked.

"Ew! Gross- oh yeah, I think there's one left." He said. I sighed in relief. I guess I have to run to the mall today just to buy pads.

"Can you pass it to me-" before I could even finish my sentence, the door flew open and Adrian threw the pad in my face.

"You're welcome!" He said as he shut the door. I glared at it, imagining my annoying brother there.

"Hey, I need to buy pads in the mall. Can I use your car?" I asked permission. I got Adrian's approval and I hurriedly grabbed an umbrella and rushed to his car.

Me and Adrian were siblings and our parents left us.

Nah, just kidding. Our parents were lawyers from another planet and we haven't seen them ever since. They would just send us money for our tuition and pocket money for the house and our lunch, and it's pretty much just that. I just saw them last new year and that was it.

I didn't know how old I was when my parents started to go to places and would leave me and Adrian behind. Sometimes, our older cousin Mia would go and look out for us. I was used to not having my parents around all the time, and it was kind of a bad thing.

My brother was practically the one reason why I'm still alive. I can barely survive without his cooking skills. It saddened me that after summer break, he wasn't going to be in Columbus High anymore. He was going off to college in Seattle.

I was having a hard time focusing on the road because the heavy raindrops were on my way. I was driving very slow because I had no idea where I was. The rain was getting heavier and heavier.

The bad part was that my windshield was creating a mist from the inside. I sighed and rubbed the windshield using my sweater. It must be freezing outside. The cold was already starting to find its way to my windows and the windshield.

After some time of cursing and insulting, I finally made it to the mall and managed to find a parking space next to a cool silver sports car. I opened my umbrella and went to the entrance of the mall.

I went straight ahead to the department store. Business is business. Plus, I was kind of starving and I need to go straight home after this. I was walking around and around until I finally found the aisle which contained personal care products.

Pads or tampons?

Just looking at the tampons made me uneasy. How the hell could they create such a thing. Without second thoughts, I grabbed three packs of pads in my arms.

"I'd still pick the tampons, though." a random voice sounded behind me.

"That thing looks uncomfortable." I replied as I turned around to face the stranger. When I got a glimpse of who it is, I gasped loudly and practically threw myself on her, crashing us both to the ground.

"Gwen!" I squealed.

"Oh my god, Krissy!" She squealed back. We laughed and decided to clean the mess we made in the aisle. People were starting to stare at us weirdly.

"How are you? It's been four years!" Gwen couldn't believe it and hugged the lights out of me one more time.

"I know! Why aren't you attending my school?" I whined. Gwen giggled and helped me carry the pads.

"You know I just got back here, right?"

"How was the all girls school?" I asked. I saw Gwen chuckling.

"Funny actually. They sent me there to be a good girl but I ended up teaching those girls how to become a rebel." She stated as if she was so proud of what she did. When she noticed that I gave her a look of horror, she playfully punched my shoulder.

"Come on, I'm not that bad."

- Flashback -

"Mommy!" A girl screamed and it caught my attention. I held my bear close to my chest as I walked over to the slide. I saw a girl screaming and she was clutching onto her belly.

I took a step forward and tilted my head to the side which made my soft brown curls to fall to the side. I gave her a curious look and kneeled in front of her. Her blue eyes shimmered with tears as she looked up at me.

"Are you okay?" I asked and she shook her head, her blue eyes widening.

"I'm hungry." She started to sob again. I began to panic and searched for food.

I looked at the pile of mud on the ground and back to the little girl again.

"Do you eat dirt?" I stupidly asked as she stopped sobbing and rolled her blue eyes at me. "Are you an idiot? Humans don't eat dirt!"

I flushed and suddenly remembered I had a sandwich in my lunch box. I opened my lunch box, still holding my teddy bear close to my chest and found the sandwich. I gave it to her and her eyes widen in admiration. She snatched it out of my grasp and ate like she hadn't eaten in a million years.

She looked up at me through her long eyelashes and spoke when she gulped down the last piece. "I'm Gwynette Peyton."

"Kristel Lorraine Merrick."

- End of Flashback -

"Let's go get something to drink." Gwen suggested. "Ugh, I need an update about your life."
