Five four three two

Everyone's voice reached the sky as we shouted ' Happy New Year '. Runa raised her glass to propose a toast “ A toast to a fruitful and prosperous new year...” Runa started.

“ Cheers ” Runa continued and they all cheered. Runa had planned a gathering with her close friends to cross over the new year together.

“ It's a new year so new resolutions right? " Jennie,Runa's best friend and roommate asked.

“ Definitely ” Hasting replied.

“ My new year resolution is to quit smoking ” Tom started.

“ My new year resolution is to get slimmer ” Chubby Clara joined in.

“ That has been your resolution for like as long as I've known you ” Hasting laughed loudly.

“ Well my new year resolution is to quit my job and get a new job. ” Runa joined in too but everyone turned to look at her.

“ How's that a resolution? ” Hasting bursted into laughter.

“ Why do you want to quit? ” Jennie asked Runa ignoring Hasting.

“ Yeah. You have such a nice job and a nice boss why do you want to quit? ” Clara asked curiously.

“ I don't like the job anymore and I can't keep on doing a job I have no interest in ” Runa lied.

“ Your boss is really gonna miss you y'know ” Hasting said out of concern.

“ I know ” Runa smiled and walked towards the terrace the beautiful night sky was bedazzling, she felt mesmerized by the stars and stood there watching them twinkle.

It was definitely one of the best new year nights.

The sound of classy music resonated through the walls of the Briggs Residential Villa, a ball party was being held by the Briggs to celebrate the beginning of the new year. The Briggs are prominently known in the fashion industry as they own a large percentage of fashion lines and jewellery industries. They were also known to host the best classy parties. Everything needed to make a guest feel comfortable was prepared ranging from the elegance present to the food and the decorations.

Though the Briggs had clean intentions throwing this party, most of the guest took it as show off, nonetheless the Briggs remained unbothered.

Kara Briggs walks down the stairs, grace and elegance present in her footsteps. Her aura fills the entire ballroom and everyone stares at her as she walks. The young men silently fight and push each other for a chance to dance with her but she walks to her brother Kaleb Briggs who was previously greeting the guests.

“ Where is brother? ” Kara whispered to Kaleb while maintaining a smile for all those who were staring at her.

“ He'll be here soon ” Kaleb replied also whispering in order to not attract attention.

“ That was what you said two hours ago ” Kara snapped at Kaleb.

“ Why not call him then? ” Kaleb pressed his lips together and faked a smile for those staring at him.

“ Do you think I've not done that already? He's not picking my calls ” Kara frowned.

The guest who had been watching them from afar began to murmur and Kara immediately puts up a smile to stop the murmurs.

“ How about this? Go and welcome the guest over there...” He said pointing at some people.

“ I'll call him up okay? ” Kaleb assures her.

“ Fine ” Kara gives in and walks towards the people Kaleb was pointing at with a wide smile on her face.

Kaleb dials his brother's number but he does not pick the call. Suddenly the door flings wide open and everyone turns to see who it is.

Handsome with jet black hair, light blue eyes, light skin, and well built body, Kai Briggs walks into the ballroom in an expensive black tux. His appearance at the ball stirs up reactions from everyone.

“ It's the Icy Prince ” Someone whispers.

“ He's so handsome ” A lady says.

Some ladies start adjusting their ball gowns to show some cleavages when they see him passing but he bashfully walks past them with his eyes fixed to his phone.

Kai walks towards Kaleb and Kara with an angry look on his face.

“ Heavens be praised he finally turns up ” Kara said sarcastically.

Kai ignores Kara “ I'm aware of our sister's stupidity but what I wasn't aware of is that you'd also disturb my work for this unimportant occasion ” Kai went into an outburst.

The music suddenly went down and everyone heard what Kai said.

The paparazzi couldn't bear to let this moment slip away, they took pictures of Kai's rude moments.

“ Brother there are people here stop being so loud ” Kara shouted.

“ Right now you're louder than me ” Kai retorted.

“ Kai let's go outside ” Kaleb said in an angry tone.

Kai turns his back and walks out, Kaleb follows after him and Kara controls the guest.

“ I'm sorry for the inconveniences and my brother's late arrival ” Kara apologized to the guest.

“ Please carry on with what you're doing I'll go see what's wrong ” Kara excused herself and walked outside to where Kai mad Kaleb were.

“ What was the meaning of that stunt you pull out there? ” Kaleb shot at Kai once they got far away from the ballroom.

“ I'm Kai Briggs I don't play games or pull stunts ” Kai said shooting death glares at Kaleb.

“ Why are you late? ” Kara asked.

Kai glared at Kaleb “ Well someone refused to get me an assistant ” Kai retorted.

“ The process is taking some time we'll get you someone and we'll interview them by tomorrow ” Kaleb sighs thinking Kai is being unreasonable.

“ Who ever it is I wish to interview them myself ”

“ Great they'll run away before you even accept em " Kara said sarcastically.

Kai shoots death glares at Kara and stomps off angrily.

“ Go apologize to the guests ” Kara shouted after him.

“ This is gonna be one hell of a night ” Kara groaned.

“ Are you still staring at the stars? ” Jennie,who had been watching her for a while asked.

“ I'm thinking of what this new year has to offer, will I get a new job or have I done something stupid by quitting my old one,will I die or live longer will I meet new friends or meet former friends, will I make new enemies or meet old nemesis,I'm thinking too much ain't I? ” Runa spoke her mind to Jennie.

“ Honestly speaking I don't know what to say to you ” Jennie smiled.

Jennie was the type of friends who could always care less about advising people but she was a good listener.

“ By the way have you applied for a job? ” Jennie changed the topic.

“ Yeah...I applied for the post of an assistant in Aceway groups ” Runa smiled.

“ The industry owned by the Briggs? ” Jennie asked surprised.

“ Yeah...I think it's that one ” Runa replied.

“ It's really tough to land one there you know? ” Jennie cautioned.

“ I know but I have to shoot my....” Runa was saying but was interrupted by her phone.

“ Oh... My phone's ringing ” Runa picks the call.

“ Hello who's this? ” Runa asked.

“ Are you Miss Runa Tungsten? ” The voice over the phone asked.

“ Yes? ” Runa replied,she was starting to get impatient.

“ This is Aceway you've passed the first stage and you've been moved to the interviewing stage come tomorrow with your documents for your interview 9 o' clock ” The person said.

“ Thanks ”

“ Good luck then ” The person hanged up.

“ I just passed the first stage ” Runa shouted happily.

“ arrhhhhhh..." Jennie screamed

I've got an interview tomorrow...” Runa squealed happily.

“ I'm gonna go tell everyone” Jennie said and ran off.

“ I'll do that ..” Runa shouted but paused when she no longer saw Jennie.

“ I've got an interview tomorrow ” Runa kept repeating to herself.

“ Thank you so much God please let nothing wrong happen ” Runa prayed silently and ran off to her bedroom.

This year is gonna be good or so I thought!
