CHAPTER 01 - Welcome to Norwood

It was dark midnight when a sudden call buzzed in the police station. Picking up the phone, a man spoke in his husky voice. "Yes, this is Norwood's special department. How can I help you?"

In a stammering whispering voice, the lady replied. "Hello there, I found a dead body near Norwood's train station."

A smirk plastered on his face as he laughed aloud like a maniac. "The officer got transferred to another city. Wait till morning. A new officer will join the department."

Before she could utter a word, the man hung up the call.

"And they think we are free to listen to their nonsense."

With a strange grin on his face, he scratched his belly and went back to sleep.

...................

The next day brought a new shine to Norwood city as a new officer entered the township. Norwood town, an entire package of mystery.

The less populated and unfavored town ever.

Among the citizens, fear is the most common feeling. It is the only town that had unsolved crime cases and high-rated criminals. Myths are the only thing you would hear about Norwood.

Fantic about a new place, she decided to take a tour of the town. While roaming around, her eyes fell on the crowd assembled near the train station. All were sweating hard like they saw something dreadful.

Puzzled about the condition, she moved forward, asking them. "What is happening here?" A guy wiped off his cold sweat as he paused to answer her. "A lady found a dead body near the station, but the police department did nothing to help her." Creasing her brows, she moved them aside as she squatted to take a clear vision of the body. "Who found her first?" A lady instantly lifted her hand in the air. "I was the first one. I called the Police too, but they refused to help because the new officer still didn't join the department."

Holding her breath, she clenched her fist, ordering her. "Call them again and say the new officer is already on the crime spot. Come as soon as possible." Taking a last glance, she sighed. "No one will come nearer to the body. DON'T CROSS THE LINE."

Folding her sleeves, she took out a phone while everyone startled, seeing a strict officer in the town. "Norwood finally got a superior officer," a lady spoke with a pleased smile on her face.

........................

It was around eleven o'clock when everyone reached the crime spot. They surrounded the body with a sealed-border as only criminological, and some photographers were allowed to cross the line. A clicking sound came from the camera as the photographer shot the victim from all aspects.

Crossing her hands, she shot glares at the deputy man. "Is this how you work? DON'T YOU HAVE A LITTLE PROFESSIONALISM?"

Flinching at his spot, he gazes down. "We're sorry about it. No one was available at that time, mam." Rolling her eyes, she taunted. "Keep your excuse to you. I know how professional this town's officers are? Don't teach me, okay?"

Taking a glimpse at her wristwatch, she walked back to them. "How long will it take?" "The body seems freshly dead," one of the officers replied.

"Send the body for postmortem." Nodding their heads, they signaled them as they took the body to the hospital.

"Search around. See if we can find any victim's identity proof."

Gasping, they all started searching around while she gasped, feeling tired of the journey. "Life is nothing but struggle. Huh! I got a case before I even joined the department."

She massaged her shoulders when her eyes fell on a necklace that was lying on the ground.

With her half-lidded eyes, she walked towards it and picked it in her hands.

"What is this now?" Stroking her chin, she quickly put it inside her pocket, hiding it from everyone.

Keeping the necklace to herself, she went to her new flat to freshen up.

..................

Brushing off the dust from her jacket, she walked inside the station as everyone saluted her. "Warm welcome to the department, Miss Kim."

With pinched lips, she again rolled her eyes. "I don't come here for blabbering. Place all details related to the new case."

As they hummed, she walked away to her cabin. Taking a seat, she rested her head on the table while ruffling her hair. "Why did I transfer here? Even the department is not hardworking." Regret was visible all over her face when a person walked inside, holding some files in his hands. Thirsting out her mouth, she glanced at him while maintaining the intense look. "Here's the details, mam." Passing her details, he added. "The victim's name is Rachel Greene. She worked in Jones production company. She is the daughter of Josh Greene." At the moment, when she heard his name, her eyes popped out of her socket like she knew the man very well. Her hands halted at their spot while her lips got dried.

Taken aback, she asked. "W-WHO?" "Josh Greene. The successful businessman in Norwood."

Massaging her temples, she breathed heavily. "You go back and take out her phone records and last location before the murder. Also, inform me whenever a postmortem report comes out."

Nodding his head, he walked away as she leaned back on her chair. "Josh Greene? Interesting."

An evil smirk plastered on her face as she took her phone and called someone. "Hey, it's me, Ashley Kim. I want you for some important reason."

??- I don't have time for you. I'm already on a mission.

Chuckling at her words, she glanced outside the window.

Ashley - It seems like Hazel Smith became a high-paid detective.

Hazel. S - If you have nothing to say, I'm hanging.

Ashley - You'll regret hanging on me today. I got a piece of influential information for you.

Hazel - You and influential information? Rise, Ashely. I'm a professional detective, not a dumb joker who will help you find dogs and cats.

She felt irritated by her jokes and almost hung up when Ashley mentioned someone, which instantly paused her.

Ashley- I got a case related to JOSH GREENE.
