"Can I get a cafe latte?" I moved my eyes from the documents that were in front of me, to the person that just ordered. My best friend, Vanessa, sat in front of me with a cheeky smile. I smiled at her before turning to look at one of the waitress who was working behind the counter.

"Pixie, Can i get a cafe latte with two sugar, please?" I asked, quickly obtaining a groan from Vanessa.

"I like it when you make my cafe" She whinged. I rolled my eyes before motioning to Pixie to leave it to me. I knew that Vanessa loves it when i make her cafe. I lifted my head to look around the cafe. It was quiet. The three waitresses that work in here, were all busy. As the manager of the Lifestyle Cafe, I had to make sure that everything was taken care of. I walked to Vanessa, then handed her the coffee. She seemed happy that I made it. Vanessa was the daughter of one of the richest men in this town. She was wearing a grey pencil skirt. Her white blouse was tucked in. Her blond hair was tied in a neat bun. She has bright blue eyes. We were polar opposites. I think that this was why we were best friends. We became friends when I started college. This year is our last year in college and we still kept that friendship going strong. She is not the type of girl who would judge me based on my social status.

"I hope you like it" I said as she took a sip. Her eyes lit up then she frantically nodded her head.

"Always did and always will" She whispered as if the coffee was pure heaven. "Are we going out tonight?" she asked as she pulled the papers that were in front of me. She starts turning the pages, trying to have a look to what I was working on.

"Where do you want to go?" I asked her, snatching the papers from her hands and putting them back in the drawer behind the counter. She shrugged.

"My brother is in town because of business" she announced. I rose my eyebrows. Vanessa has two brothers. In our four years of friendship, I have met only her parents. Her brothers lived abroad. We never really talked about them.

"Which one?" I asked casually. I took the apron off me , then walked around the counter so that I was now sitting next to her. I took her cup and drank a sip.

  "Alec" she said.

  Who?

"Alec is the oldest one" She quickly said as if reading my mind. I nodded.

"So, what does your brother has to do with us going out?" I asked.

"I want to take him out as well" she said. "He's been stressed with work. It is also a good occasion for you guys to meet" I nodded.

"Taboo?" i asked her. Her eyes widened and she nodded happily. Taboo is one the most popular nightclub in town. "I'm reserving us a booth. I am going to tell Arthur, Remy and Cassandra to meet us there" I pulled my phone out of my pocket then sent a message to them. The idea of going out, was enticing. I felt like I needed to let off some steam and relax a little bit. I have been too busy with the café that I also abandoned my social life. If Vanessa and my other friends did not come to visit me now and then, in the café, I don't think I would have met them often. I can't believe that I am just twenty three years old. I was not in need of money. The salary that I get was more than enough to keep me going. I guess that I was simply business driven. I spent most of my time in work or simply working on my college assignments.

"I'm heading home" Vanessa told me as she stood up and gave me a side hug. She was holding all her papers in her arms and her cup in her hand. She offered me a big wide smile. "I'll see you at the entry of the club around 9?" She asked. I nodded.

"I'll be there. I think the others are most probably going to come as they've been dying to have a night out" I told her as I jumped off the chair that I was sitting on. I fixed my blouse, then pushed my hair off my shoulder.

"See you later" she said while walking out. I watched her. I took a deep breath. I was feeling excited. I had no idea why. I think I was eager to take a break from work. Just as I started walking to the door that led to the back of the café, I saw one of the customers rose his hand and motioned me to come. I put one of my brightest smile.

"Good Afternoon! How can I help you?" I asked, pulling my notebook out of my back pocket, ready to get the orders.

"We've already been served" the guy answered. He seemed to be a high school kid. Around the table, were sitting four other boys.

"Is there any problem?" I inquired, still keeping my smile on my face. The guy looked nervous. He didn't seem to fit in this group. The other guys looked like they were the typical jocks, a.k.a, the douchebags and bully of high school. The boy that I was looking at the moment, looked like a guy who was trying everything he could to fit into the popular circle. Little did he know that he was most probably so much better than them. I rose one of my eyebrows, prompting him to tell me about whatever he had to ask. I did not have all day.

"I lost my number" he said. I could sense that there was no confidence in his words. The other guys were snorting. They were making fun of him.

  "And?" I asked.

"Can i have yours?" He asked.. The tips of his ears were turning red. I totally understood. This pick up line was so lame but I appreciated his effort and courage to actually call me over and tell me that. I wanted to slap his 'friends' across the face for making fun of him. I laughed and pretended that his pick up line was working.

"You do know that I am older than you, right?" I asked as I put my notebook back in my back pocket. I could sense the eyes of one of the jocks moving to my ass. I did not mind him staring. I mean, I have been squatting my ass off, literally, to get this result.

"The older, the better" One of the jocks chuckled. I rolled my eyes before looking at the guy who asked me for my number.

"Meet me near the counter alone when you are done" I said with a wink. His eyes widened as he nodded. With that, I walked back to the back office of the café while shaking my head in pure disbelief.

After a while, Pixie walked in the office. She looked at me suspiciously, then moved slightly aside so that I could see the counter. The high school guy was leaning against the counter, tapping his fingers against the wooden surface. I shook my head but still stood up.

"Isn't he too young for you?" Pixie asked jokingly. A chuckle escaped my mouth as I made my way to the counter.

"Way too young" I whispered loud enough for her to hear. She laughed at my words before resuming work. As the guy saw me, his eyes lit up. My eyes automatically scanned the café to see the location of his friends. There they were, standing outside the café acting all cool with their leather jackets. I unintentionally rolled my eyes again. I knew that they were standing there, waiting for the guy in front of me. Their eyes were on us, on our every move. I lean so that I was now literally in his face.

"You're not getting my number" I broke it out. He frowned as confusion swept through him. "The only reason I didn't refuse at the table, was because I didn't want to embarrass you" I continued. He looked down at the table and ran his hand in his dark brown hair.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to act like an asshole" he apologized. I quickly smiled at him and touched his hand.

"You don't need to apologize. You still have time. Choose your friends properly" I advised. "Now, I will write down a fake number and hand it to you" I said. He looked at me, his eyes big as the moon.

  "Thank you?" He mumbled.

"You're welcome" I responded as I wrote down a fake number on the paper. I lifted my head to see that the guys outside looked surprise. I leant and kissed the guy in front of me on his cheek before winking. "Know your worth" I simply said. He nodded then walked out. I shook my head again, thinking about what people needed to do now to obtain validation.

This world was getting harder to live in.

I tilted my head, looking at the different dresses that I just threw on my bed. I rolled my lower lip in my mouth.

I didn't have anything to wear.
