[It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind.]

I was listening to music and trying to calm my exploding emotions. I've never been this angry. The argument I had with my parents had left me shaken and my anger was reaching new heights each second.

I couldn't take it anymore so I grabbed my pillow and emptied my lungs in three long shouts.

My parents broke down my door and each held a knife, they looked disappointed and disgusted.

"We know what you are." My Mother sneered.

"I don't know what you're talking about." I replied hoarsely.

"You're leaving, now!" My father growled.

I stepped towards them and their knives pushed forward too, towards me.

Staring at my father's wide knife I could see my reflection. My eyes were burning torches of red and I couldn't look away. I lifted my hand to my face just to make sure that it was indeed mine.

"We're taking you to Aarunt. Pack your bags." My father commanded.

"Now." My mom told me.

I stared blankly at them not moving. My mom's hand came flying to my cheek and I caught it and squeezed causing her to scream out.

.

And that's how we ended up here, seated on the long couch facing the headmaster who was on a his glorious throne staring down at us with his small hooded eyes, the deep blue glow of the rytuid from the tank above him caused the entire room to feel crowded and spacious at the same time.

Ngula boarding was found on one of the most hated islands, Aarunt. It was situated in the city of Guni, where the family of every criminal locked up in Osi lived.

Every student in Ngula came from either a rich or criminal family. The rest who weren't among those had interesting stories to tell, I was one of them.

The boarding was built for the 'freaks' who found themselves cursed with an ability. The island was surprisingly only known for having the most guarded prison, it was both a good and bad thing.

''Yima Arcane.'' He drawled as he read from a folder. His eyes slowly found themselves on my face once more and I couldn't stop the frown that took residence on my face, I knew what was to come even before he said anything.

''It says here that you don't specifically have abilities,'' he looked up once before continuing, ''It says,'' he chuckles, ''that you have no control over whatever it is that you possess."

"That doesn't matter, look at what she did to my wife." He growled.

"She belongs here." My mother chocked out still in pain.

"I have an ability, it's true. But if you don't allow me into boarding I'll be hunted and killed."I said.

"What can you do?" The man asked.

"She's the devil." My father said.

"Show me what you can do." He put my file down. My parents turned away not wanting to come face to face with the devil again.

"I can't turn it on when I want to. Show me what your students can do that way I'll be able to recognise my own abilities." I confidently said.

Growing up I always had a sudden urge to try and find out if I really had abilities. Nothing ever happened until now.I shuddered at the memory.

The pirate king's son knows what power he would have if he married someone with an ability. He knows how untouchable he would become. But he won't reach me, I won't be his trophy wife.

I twirled the ring on my finger, I would have thrown it away but it looked pretty.

He took placed the folder back where he found it. Everyone had one, it was introduced when I was only two years old in Durt when it was under the rule of Isolde, the most notorious leader. They were meant to keep record of everyone's personal life and experiences, I hated it. They were only accessible when urgently needed. Where they were kept was a complete mystery to me.

He was quiet as he scrutinized me, I kept my head high, posture straight and maintained eye contact not wanting him to think he had me intimidated. Looking up at him, I took in his appearance paying attention to everything. The features on his face that stood out the most were his bushy eyebrows. His gunmetal blue eyes were filled with so much excitement and curiosity, that it was hard to look away.

He looked to be in his late forties and I couldn't deny that he was oddly handsome. His lips pulled up in a knowing smile and I felt blood running to my face in embarrassment, the thought of him being able to read minds bothered me a lot. I shifted my eyes to his desk which was neatly arranged and on it was his name tag which read, Med.

''You don't seem like the type of people who would lie,'' he was wrong but I wasn't going to correct him, ''give me a second to decide.'' He wondered off in thought and I took the opportunity to take in the whole room.

On the wall were six large pictures of each house leader. Only one was headed by a boy, he looked about my age with short blond curly hair, sunken blue eyes and a beautiful smile. He was part of house tifins.

I returned my attention to Med and I noticed that he was having a conversation with someone over a mind link, mind links were formed only by blood oaths when two suitable people took part in that ceremony. Undergoing such a ceremony is risky because other people die from trying to link themselves with unsuitable people. Med was instructing the other person to send in the house leaders.

Being able to listen to people's mind linked conversations has helped me survive.

Turning back to the wall, I took a glance at the people that I was yet to meet and I felt both nervous and excited. I hoped that someone had something that I could relate to, even just a little bit.

''The leaders will be here in a minute.'' He ignored us completely after that and began finishing up the work that we found him doing when we were dragged in here by the guard.

I shrunk back in my seat wondering what I had gotten myself into, something that will grant back my freedom and also maybe understanding I reminded myself.

I knew I possessed something, I could feel it.

This was it, I was being granted front row seat to a freak show that would later help us determine what type of freak I was. It was rude of me to call them freaks but that was the only word used to refer to them. A small part of me hoped that one day I would wake up and never worry about wondering whether I'm a freak or not.

We sat in awkward silence as we awaited their arrival. I stared at the space between us and my parents kept their glare on me.

After the rytuid made it's fourth complete turn, the double doors swung open revealing six people in uniform, except each had a different badge on the breast pocket. Zelda, the house leader of house lintos had an intimidating presence, I secretly wished that I didn't have abilities similar to hers. Her long grey hair was tied back in a ponytail, she was taller than I thought she would be.

Nyx, leader of house imits was standing at Zelda's left. Her large blue eyes narrowed when they spotted me and I looked away.

Falcon, the leader of house greens was the shortest and also, in my opinion, had the most beautiful hair color, the shades of the eastern rainbow.

Adira, of house waves was the complete opposite in the sense that her hair was the shade of the the Durt bridge, colorless with brown edges. It moved like the ocean waves and sat proudly on her head, spilling onto her shoulders like water.

Brielle, of house droppers sent me an encouraging smile and I smiled back. Her almond shaped eyes didn't focus on anything at all but it still managed to feel as if she was watching the whole room at once. Hunter leaned against the wall in almost a ghostly way, it was like he wasn't even there. His gaze was fixed on Med and I followed suite.

''As you have already noticed we might be receiving a new beginner today. I'm sure you're wondering why I asked you to come here, well she," he paused deliberately, "is too dumb to know what abilityshe has and she can only identify it." I swallowed my shame.

Everyone's eyes fell on us and I was glad that I managed to keep a straight face and pretend as if I couldn't feel their piercing looks. My parents on the other hand had their hands covering half of their faces so I couldn't tell what their reaction was.

"You may leave." MED said to my parents and they happily complied.

The first to step forward was Falcon, who raised her finger tips and within seconds, a chair made of branches and vines was formed, which she later sat on. I lost control of my jaw and it fell open as I clapped for her. She nodded her thanks before returning to her original position.

The rest didn't look surprised, they looked bored.
